About this listen

THE BESTSELLING SERIES THAT INSPIRED AMAZON PRIME'S BALLARD AND BOSCH

'Michael Connelly is a powerhouse, an unstoppable force in crime fiction. The Waiting is proof he is at the top of his game."

MICK HERRON, #1 bestselling author of SLOW HORSES

****

IN COLD CASES,
IT'S NOT THE HOPE THAT KILLS YOU.
IT'S THE WAITING.

LAPD Detective Renée Ballard gets a DNA hit in a case that has gone unsolved for twenty years. A recently arrested man is genetically related to a serial rapist who terrorised the city of angels.

But when the relative is revealed, it is the last person you want to accuse unless the evidence is watertight...

With the help of the newest volunteer to the cold case unit - patrol officer Maddie Bosch, Harry's daughter - Ballard finally has another badge on the team. But Maddie has an ulterior motive for getting access to the city's library of souls.

Because some crimes have been waiting to be solved longer than others...

An electrifying and authoritative page-turner from one of the greatest crime writers of all-time - the author behind Amazon Prime's Bosch and Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer.

Not too gory, nicely brought along with an elegant legacy undertone to it. Ballard and Bosh still at their best. Lovely to hear long known voices as well.

Fab storytelling .

The whole book was gripping, with a number of exciting incidents and unexpected turns. It was really well narrated.

A gripping tale

Really good flow and well written
Would have liked a bit more from the backstory and history on the pillowcase murderer, maybe that’s the book…

Best in its genre for 2024 and maybe even more

For me this novel has opened up a new era of Michael Connelly novels. So good. One of the best. Cannot wait for the next one.

A new era.

I'm a huge fan of Mr Connelly, but l enjoyed this one more than quire a few of his earlier ones. l think it had something to do with the smallish but completely individually recognisable cast members. The narrators conveyed so many separate characters using pitch and tone, the way one does without thinking reading a book.

As a result, l found the plot easy to follow and engaging without being too simple. l'll also listen to it again and l've no hesitation in recommending this latest outing to anyone.

The way he keeps the plates spinning
