Summary

A heartless villain....
Lady Daphne Fairchild braves the journey from London to the wilds of Scotland alone with one purpose in mind: confront the man who purposely and methodically set out to ruin the men of her family. But what he demands in exchange for answers will thrust Daphne into a world of mystery, hatred, and lust.

An indecent proposal....
Thirty days and nights in the bed of the Earl of Hartmoor...this is the price she must pay to learn the truth of the dark lord’s vendetta against her family. Yet, when she accepts the offer, Daphne never expects to find that nothing is what she thought it was, and the truth proves far harder to stomach than she ever imagined.

A cruel desire that holds her captive....
Even as he uses her to exact his final revenge against her family, Daphne cannot deny the way her body reacts to his touch, the way her soul seems to become more intertwined with his by the day. Despite the ruin he has made of her life, she cannot escape that the threads of deceit, desire, and pain have tied them together irrevocably. With her fate now in his hands, she is uncertain whether he will turn out to be the hero who steals her heart, or the villain who destroys her soul.

Highly recommended Steamy Regency Tale

I have read the book and this was my review for that:- This is a spectacular story and highly recommended. Very early on one is hooked. This is a hot and steamy tale, but with a very strong narrative- that is to say not just a lot of random encounters.
Lady Daphne’s family has been destroyed and ruined in the eyes of the Ton by The Earl of Hartmoor (Adam). Daphne travels to his castle in Scotland to discover the reasons for the man’s hatred and need for vengeance. The narrative carefully leads us through this mystery. The characters are carefully drawn and believable.

The narrator is really good - he delivers the story superbly.

I love all of Victoria Vale’s book - she has a wonderful style and weaves a good story.

Surprisingly Brilliant!

I bought this on a whim and can honestly I actually enjoyed it.

It is a steamy one so headphones are a good option. I tend to read some erotic romance novels from time to time, but this one has been the best one I've read in a while.

Just purchased the dove so I cant wait to get started on that. I may end up buying a few more from this author

The Villain

This story has many ups and downs and it was difficult to like the main characters, but as the story unfolded you realise how strong, his character is. I really got into it by the end.

Well read and deliciously dark

This delicious story of a man with a deep hatred for the family of Daphne Fairchild is read wonderfully and with the male voice reading this Adam's words and emotions will jump out and surround you and suck you into their world. Magnificent story and darkly read gets my 5 stars!

Serious S&M — you are forewarned because I wish others had adequately warned me

Each to his/her own as they say but I’m a bit shocked by all the reviewers who think this is a “romantic” and “sexy” as a story. I thought it was pretty depressing. I understand some people like a bit of S&M and I don’t much so maybe that is the problem. In my experience people have enough pain in their lives without seeking it out. The villain is a rapist but the hero is also a super aggressive rapist. LOTS OF SPOILERS: Hero rapes the heroine’s mouth until she is almost choked; he rapes her vaginally and has super aggressive intercourse with her when he devirginizes her; he rapes her anally near the end; he practices choking sex on her; he bites her and bruises her and yanks at her hair until she cries all the time. This happens continually over a period of a month. He degrades her regularly in every way he can think — e.g., forcing her to strip in front of servants, not wear underclothes, sit on floor uncomfortably all day at his feet, wear a collar all day that he can yank on. The overarching image is of the hero’s enormous angry purple cock pumping frantically and tearing at all of the heroine’s orifices in turn. Almost no story but continual “sex” of the type described in the foregoing. If this turns you on, you will enjoy. I don’t mean to judge. I was just disappointed because it doesn’t turn me on and I used up a credit on it because so many people gave us glowing reviews of this book. The author keeps insisting that our heroine while scared and in pain, it really excited by all the violence and degradation — the pleasure and the pain. I guess that is true for some women but it made me sick and uncomfortable while many reviewers seemed to find it titillating, arousing and romantic. I wanted to make sure others like me were warned and didn’t use their credit but that shouldn’t stop others who like this stuff. I like steamy regency romance but “dark romance”, as some called it, is just too much of a euphemism for this story!!! I skipped through parts of the S&M. Plus the damn book has no ending. You have to buy and read the sequel to get the rest of the story. On top of all this, the story is stupid and I guessed it 10 minutes in. The plot is a weird unconvincing contradiction. The hero supposedly has a great reason to sadistically handle the heroine because the heroine’s brother raped the hero’s sister plus engaged in some VERY nasty behavior afterwards. Then the hero simply repeatedly rapes the heroine (as described above) and she decides she kinds of likes it. Ultimately, the hero is simply a sadist and the heroine is simply a masochist and so they don’t really need the justification story except to push the heroine into the hero’s castle. I’m annoyed because I’d sort of like to know what happens to them in the end but no way will I spend a credit on the second book and even skim through all that sadism. There is no give and take between H and H. Perhaps if there was a little role reversal mixed in it would been more tolerable. She never ever wins (i guess she does get to keep the money). People keep saying she is strong willed and tough — the author and other reviewers, but that is totally not the case. She is a scared wimp who is brutalized by the hero throughout but she ends up finding such treatment pleasurable all along the way. Definitely didn’t do it for me.

Amazing

This is unlike any other historical romance I have read. It combines historical romance with some steamy and passionate scenes. By far one of the best books I have read.

so hot, dark, erotic read!

Lady Daphne Fairchild - Victoria has a way of writing strong women in an era where women were considered dainty and weak. Her family has been destroyed, and she knows who has done it. She wants to know why. In the dead of the night, she rides alone to Scotland to confront the Earl of Kilmead and get her answers.
He says he will give her the answers she wants if she spends thirty days and thirty nights in his bed. If she does, he will also give her something that will save her family from homelessness. To save her family, she agrees.
How it ends you will have to listen to find out.

Interesting Book One if you Enjoy Sexual Novels

I received this book free for a fair unbaised review. I thought the story was well developed and somewhat original. I usually do not get into books that are designed to be a mini-series. I do recommed the book for those that enjoy this type of genre. I doubt I would continue on with the series just because of its sexual content.

The Villain

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Ummm...WOW!! I don't read too many Historical Romances...but this...is wow! I was hooked right from the start.
Lady Daphne's family name, reputation & fortune is being ruined by Adam an Earl in Scotland. Lady Daphne's family will not tell her why Adam is hell bent on ruining them so she makes the trek to Scotland herself to find out why. Lady D strikes a deal with Adam in order to get some truths. Will he survive the deal? Will the truths take away her innocence & make her see her family in a completely different way? Absolutely!
I have changed my mind on which side I was rooting for so many times already.
I can not wait to read the Dove.

Scorching hot and emotionally strong

I’ve read this yummy dark story but to listen to Darcy Stark’s delivery just delivers me to another place. Adam’s family suffered through actions taken by Daphne’s brother. He sets forth on ruining the family. Daphne comes to his home to try and find out why he’s doing this. What happens next is a dark, erotic journey that you don’t want to end. I’d never read/listened to a story quite like this and I loved it. Victoria Vale really has a way with weaving a tale that is scorching hot, emotionally strong and gives you characters you want more of.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
