Story
Laurie Morgan runs a café in the small seaside community of Mermaids Point, named after the beauties rumoured to live in the waters off the top of the point. When a hazy image is posted online of what appears to be a mermaid, the café and the village are soon full to bursting with curious sightseers. The most eye-catching of the new arrivals is Jake Smith, who has rented a cottage for the summer while he works on his new book. Or so he says. In fact, he is a journalist, burned out and disillusioned with life, whose editor has sent him on a crack-pot hunt for mermaids....

Summary
A feel-good story of new beginnings set in a gorgeous country village, perfect for fans of Katie Fforde and Milly Johnson.
After losing her job in New York, Amber Green isn’t looking forward to visiting her godmother in the sleepy village of Cranbridge. With its empty lanes and rundown shops, it’s hardly a place to mend her lonely heart.
But when Amber discovers that Cranbridge Stores, owned by her godmother, Cathy, and son, Josh, is under threat of financial ruin, she realises that her skills as a window dresser might just be able to help save the struggling shop.
When disaster strikes, Amber and Josh must unite to save both the shop and the village from flooding.
Can Cranbridge Stores become the heart of the village once more?
And as the village begins to come back to life, perhaps Amber will discover a reason to stay.

Waste of a credit
If you like novels containing two-dimensional characters, uneventful predictable plots with no mystery or depth, and sing-song narration too, then buy this book. However if you enjoy characters you care about driving a compelling plot that captures your interest and imagination, then look elsewhere.

Became too Saccharine
I was enjoying this. Though it was predictable it was a pleasant story but by over half way I wanted to shake Amber too get a grip as she became quite a pathetic character and by the end it was too mills and boon in style and felt very fleshed out with silly scenarios etc especially the end when suddenly she does a 360 degree change of character that is frankly ridiculous. Narration was ok but each character sounded exactly the same or went into a high pitched whine.
Stick to Cathy Bramley or Milly Johnson I’d I were you and don’t waste a credit

A Sweet Story about Love and Friendship
I didn’t give this book five stars because I thought the pacing was a little too slow but overall I enjoyed the story very much. The characters were charming and relatable and the romance between Josh and Amber was sweet, though probably a little too slow of a burn - wish there had been a chance to develop it further. Overall, I spent an enjoyable afternoon reading about village life in England.
The narrator was excellent.
