Summary
From New York Times best-selling author Jayne Ann Krentz comes a gripping new romantic suspense trilogy fraught with danger and enigma.
Decades ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, The Incident occurred: an explosion in the cave system that released unknown gases. The residents slept for two days. When they woke up they discovered that things had changed - they had changed. Some started having visions. Others heard ominous voices. And then, scientists from a mysterious government agency arrived. Determined not to become research subjects of strange experiments, the residents of Fogg Lake blamed their "hallucinations" on food poisoning, and the story worked. But now it has become apparent that the eerie effects of The Incident are showing up in the descendants of Fogg Lake....
Catalina Lark and Olivia LeClair, best friends and co-owners of an investigation firm in Seattle, use what they call their "other sight" to help solve cases. When Olivia suddenly vanishes one night, Cat frantically begins the search for her friend. No one takes the disappearance seriously except Slater Arganbright, an agent from a shadowy organization known only as the Foundation, who shows up at her firm with a cryptic warning.
A ruthless killer is hunting the only witnesses to a murder that occurred in the Fogg Lake caves 15 years ago - Catalina and Olivia. And someone intends to make both women vanish.

Nothing new here...
I like Jayne Ann Krentz and own many of her books. I tend to re-listened every few years. This probably won’t be a repeat. As a Krentz fan I was hoping this new series would be as enjoyable as her last. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t really new either. I listened all the way through but spent my time thinking this idea came from this book and that idea came from that book. If you take the paranormal Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle, and Amanda Quick books and shake them up what spills out is The Vanishing. I wish I had saved my credit and just gotten on the hold list at the library. This book isn’t awful but if you want new and fresh you will be disappointed. I will listen to any further installments to the series through the library on RBDigital or Hoopla and save my credit.

Terrible narration
This is a typical Krentz book. Enjoyable and predictable. But the narration was really bad. No emotion and emphasis on the wrong words in a sentence. The bad narration kept me from enjoying the book.

A bit of Deja Vu
First, I love Jayne Ann Krentz / Amanda Quick / Jayne Castle. I particularly love her paranormal mystery-romance books... I find the ones that don't have the paranormal element to be a little boring. The "deja vu" comment is because many of the same elements and plot twists are found in prior books. But, I keep reading her/listening to her because I really enjoy her characters. I enjoy their struggles, their triumphs, and the romance that underlies a pretty good mystery. So I enjoyed this book.
I did not enjoy the narrator. She has a chirpy little girl voice and can't vary it much to make male voices. She also has a bit of a problem with her S sounds and it made listening a little annoying. I really hope there's a different narrator for any more books in the Fogg Lake series.

Good story, wrong marry
Story line was on a different topic then most books today so it was intriguing. The main characters were good together though more of their backgrounds could have been provided. The narrator was not a good choice for this story. She just didn’t have the range of voices to go with the characters. I hope if there are more stories they consider a different narrator or even better a male and female.

While Sandra Michelle’s voice is very clear and distinct, there is very little emotion. There is no difference between falling into a pit from hell and buttering a piece of toast. Difficult to enjoy the story.

enjoyed listening to this story. Mr. Krentz has all three of her book lines in this story. Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle. I have read most if not all her book. In this one she has put all the elements in. It was good, but really nothing new. Bad guys good guys, strong main man, good spunky female, with a side kick. will get the next ones of course, Ms. Krentz is a must to buy. favorite book by her, “All Night Long"
