Summary

A Message from The Author

Writing The Undead is a humbling experience. I am eternally grateful to the readers and listeners for the incredible support you always show.

Dan Morgan superbly narrated Parts 1 to 10, but unfortunately he was not able to continue. To my delight, the wonderfully talented Joe Jameson has now taken the series on. His range and skills are superb.

I am aware of the feedback about the voice of one of my characters, Dave. If this change has upset your listening experience then I can only apologise, but both Joe and I, and everyone at Audible, have listened to the points you made and take them very seriously. It is a wonderful thing to have such responsive fans, so willing to listen and work to make it better, plus the interactive nature of the series means you the listener can speak out and say what you like and don't like, otherwise how would we know?

We've got some cracking days ahead of us. Some real stonking rip-roaring storylines to come and both Joe and I can only hope you'll stay with us on this journey.

Take care,

RR Haywood.

Howie and Marcy fight their way back into the fort to rescue Lani, only to find her on a killing spree. Her body made weak by the incessant and relentless purge of the Undead, and believing Howie has betrayed her with Marcy, she now seeks to destroy him and all he loves.

With tensions running high, Maddox and his crews watch on while Howie tries to reason with the woman he thought he loved. She leads him to the armoury, where they are together and alone. She holds a grenade in her hand, ready to detonate.

Fab story, awful delivery 😞

Without wanting to sound like a stuck record, I only discovered this series a few months ago, and absolutely loved it !
Books 1-10 are just sublime, and that stands for the story line of book 11 too, but as many before me, I just can’t abide Joe Jameson’s delivery, maybe if he’d narrated them all, I could have lived with it, but now Dave is portrayed as a Yorkshire half wit and Lahni and Paula have become more than ridiculous
I’m at a loss, got to keep listening to hear the story out, but massively disappointed, not Joes fault, but just not the same :-((((

Go easy on the narrator, judge the author

I disagree with many of the reviews for this episode and for the previous ones where the new narrator Joe Jameson took over from Dan Morgan. Yes, there are things I don't like about Jameson's delivery; Dave and Paula in particular. Blowers sounds too much like Clarence. However, Morgan wasn't perfect. He often got his voices confused, indeed I had to work out who was talking with him far more than I am doing with Jameson who is more consistent. You certainly cannot fault Jameson for his ability to convey the emotion in a scene which is strong and compelling. Take a look at Haywood's blog; Morgan decided he could not continue and any new narrator would struggle to take over such an established and well loved group of characters. To be so venomous and personal towards Jameson is simply wrong, I think he is doing a great job considering the situation and he is improving with time, and from Haywood's blog it is clear he has listened to feedback. My issue is with the author; there is a lot of lazy writing in this episode with a definite need for a Thesaurus. Repetitive use of poor description which any narrator would struggle with. I skipped more chapters with this episode than I have with any other and that is down to the writing not the narrator. The fact I had to skip a lot of the chapters with Gregori and the Boy speaks to the quality of the narration, he was too good at the voice of the truly infuriating whiny child. I don't agree with some reviews that the ending is weird, personally I felt it was back to Haywood's best with clever and unexpected twists and turns which are heartbreaking and more than made up for the laziness throughout the episode. I would recommend people listen with an open mind, remember Morgan chose to leave and was not perfect and that the author must also take a large portion of the responsibility for weaknesses in the changeover.

What has happened to this great series?

Books 1-10 have been some of the best Zombie books I've listened to on the same level as Mark Tufo's Zombie fallout but Some chapters in book 12 have been so pointless and painfully unbearable to listen to (Howie dreaming) I had to skip them.

Still missing Dan

I decided to give this next book with out Dan a go. Mainly because others had said that by the end of this book they were more comfortable with the new narrator. To some extent that may be true, however I'd did not particularly enjoy the story. It's not often I fast forward through parts of books I've not read before - but I did this one. Sometimes it's the dialogue- would someone writing a diary REALLY write as if they were relating something to a listener? I don't think so. Sometimes it the complete change of characters behaviours and, the last section in the fort wtf????
However I will try the last book in this first lot of Joe's, I hope the females don't still sound like effeminate men and Dave starts to sound more like the focused but clever man he is. Perhaps Joe could listen to one of the book narrated by Dan Morgan? All in all worse than part 11 but I've committed to hearing the next one - which will be the decider for me.

Excellent

Very fast paced, as usual for Mr Haywoods books. Best Zombie series to read. Highly addictive, recommend starting with the first book.
This is one series that needs listening to.

Paedophilia, Rape, Homophobia

What disappointed you about The Undead, Part 12?

All of it disappointed me and I shall not be buying anymore.

What was most disappointing about R. R. Haywood’s story?

This was supposed to be a story about Zombies and not Child Molesting.
The author has a very very sick mind and should be banned from writing filth.

What didn’t you like about Joe Jameson’s performance?

He is nothing like the original narrator and is actually quite lame in his presentation of this book.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

This book would make good toilet paper I guess but nothing more.

Any additional comments?

I wish Audible would vet the rubbish it sells first of all as this author should not be allowed to sell his rubbish through them.

honestly

I really enjoyed upto book 14 but to be honest I struggled with this one and book 15.
looking like the start of a downward spiral if last 2 books are anything to go buy coming from a avid fan bit disappointed.
the story just seams to be going all over the place howie loosing it in day 15 then ohh he can see in future and speak to momo in dream form and what is with the kid (freak) with gregori and why would a killer all of A sudden put up with a kid.
day 15 "he is coming" day 16 not mentioned at all.
ohh and clarance is OK killing kids now when he was adamant that he was a soldier in a past book and wouldn't ever do it the story is getting repetitive n off.

New narrator is great

Love this series and once I got through the change of narrator It just gets better and better.

I first read extracted and this led to me wanting to read more of me haywoods books.

The ability to capture human nature at its best and worst and then tell it so well is captivating.

Keep it up. Just hurry as I’m slowly getting to the end of all previously written books.
