Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Think you have a good memory? Think again. Memories are our most cherished possessions. We rely on them every day of our lives. They make us who we are. And yet the truth is they are far from being the accurate records of the past we like to think they are. True, we can all admit to having suffered occasional memory lapses, such as entering a room and immediately forgetting why or suddenly being unable to recall the name of someone we've met dozens of times. But what if we have the potential for more profound errors of memory?

Story
S.U.M.O. stands for Shut Up, Move On. It's a phrase to say to ourselves (and sometimes others) when we are acting or thinking in a way that is hindering our ability to succeed. It doesn't necessarily mean "get over it" or "pull yourself together" (although there may be occasions when both responses are necessary): "Shut Up" means stop what you're doing, take time out to reflect, let go of baggage and beliefs that hinder your potential; "Move On" means tomorrow can be different from today, look for new possibilities, don't just think about it, take action.

Jenny Block is your average girl next door, a suburban wife and mother for whom married life never felt quite right. While many books on this topic presuppose that the listener is ready to embrace an "alternative lifestyle", Block operates from the assumption that most couples who are curious about or engaged in open marriages are in fact more like her - normal people who question whether monogamy is right for them.

SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!! A+++++++
When I was presented with the offer to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review I initially declined. I hate nonfiction! I personally don't want to read anything nonfiction unless I absolutely have to! Plus, I am in a very satisfying relationship and saw absolutely no need for me to read a guide on this subject. I thought I knew it all and even joked saying, "I could have written that book myself"! Fortunately for me, I noticed how high the ratings were and decided to read some of the reviews. I was surprised to find so many of the people who listened to or read the book had initially been reluctant to pick up the book, just like me. And from what I saw, everyone who did give the book as chance was glad that they had (just like I am now)!
This is an absolutely brilliant book! Due to the creative mind of Violet Blue, topics I thought I was already well-versed in were reframed or taken apart and looked at in totally new ways. Because Ms. Blue shared stories, tips and suggestions based not only on her own personal experience but collected from interviews and research, I was left with many new ideas! Hearing about things from Ms. Blue's own point of view or from the perspective of those she knows or heard of also resulted in my learning more that I had expected. I even found myself wanting to revisit ideas or fantasies I had long forgotten about. I am very excited to say that fantasies and ideas my husband and I had once desire yet were forced to discard, thinking they were not tangible might now actually be possible! Although this book is primarily geared towards couples, I believe that anyone listening to or reading it would benefit from it in some way!
Although this is a, "guide", it is written in an entertaining style, not even close to resembling the put-me-to-sleep-style reference type guide books out there. In fact, this book is actually FUN to listen to! Although it does contain factual information (interesting, useful factual information), it also contains entertaining vignettes and several erotic short stories by the fabulous Alison Tyler. The vignettes and erotic shorts perfectly correlate with the subject being discussed, providing us with sexy and fun examples of the topic at hand. I was never once bored and was finished with this book quicker than I had expected.
I wonder if I would have liked this book as much if I had not listened to it being narrated by the very talented Lia Langola. Ms. Langola did a phenomenal job narrating this book; she truly was a perfect fit for it! On the rare occasion when she had to read less entertaining material (such as reading a list of which sexually transmitted diseases are associated with each sexual act), Ms. Langola spoke in an even keeled voice while somehow refraining from sounding monotone, dry or mechanical. I never felt like she was lecturing me or droning on. To the contrary, it felt as though Ms. Langola enjoyed what she was reading! While reading the fiction portions of this book, Ms. Langola demonstrates how extremely talented she is, altering her voice to perfectly portraying various characters. Never before had I so clearly seen the advantage of listening to an audiobook versus reading the book..... While narrating the section on how to speak with a sexy voice, Ms. Langola literally demonstrates Ms. Blue's instructions! Only those of us who listened to the audiobook were able to benefit from this additional perk!
I really can't say enough about how wonderful the author and narrator of this book are! I am very grateful that I took a chance on this audiobook! If you give this book/audiobook a chance, your partner will thank you for it!

What did you like best about this story?
There isn’t a story to this book it’s what it says it is a guide to living out your fantasies and ways to get your partner to go along with your and their fantasy’s.
Any additional comments?
If you’re interested in indulging yourself in acting out your deepest thoughts this book is well worth the cost.

I would recommend to any consenting adult.
The Ultimate Guide is no understatement. This book covers everything from general descriptions of common kinks, to the specifics of negotiating with sex workers. There is something for everyone in this book, including some saucy scenes to get the blood boiling.
I found Lia Langola to be an excellent narrator. She managed to have both a serious and playful demeanor, perfect for this type of work. She sounded right at home reading this book.
Excellent book I would recommend to any consenting adult.
