Story
For Clara Deverill, standing in for the real Lady Truelove means dispensing advice on problems she herself has never managed to overcome. There’s nothing for it but to retreat to a tearoom and hope inspiration strikes between scones. It doesn’t - until Clara overhears a rake waxing eloquent on the art of “honorable” jilting. The cad may look like an Adonis, but he’s about to find himself on the wrong side of Lady Truelove.

Summary
Dear Lady Truelove... I have fallen in love, truly and completely in love, for the first time. The man whom I hold in such passionate regard, however, is not of my station. He is a painter, a brilliant artist. Needless to say, my family would not approve....
Henry, Duke of Torquil, wouldn't be caught reading the wildly popular "Dear Lady Truelove" column, but when its advice causes his mother to embark on a scandalous elopement, an outraged Henry decides the author of this tripe must be stopped before she can ruin any more lives. Though Lady Truelove's identity is a closely guarded secret, Henry has reason to suspect the publisher of the notorious column, beautiful and provoking Irene Deverill, is also its author.
For Irene, it's easy to advise others to surrender to passion, but when she meets the Duke of Torquil, she soon learns that passion comes at a price. When one impulsive, spur-of-the-moment kiss pulls her into a scorching affair with Henry, it could destroy her beloved newspaper, her career, and her independence. But in the duke's arms, surrender is so, so sweet....

Good Read
Lee Guhrke impressed me with her mature writing. Eloquent, beautifully penned, and rich with the truths of that era.
Her characterisation was superb, leaving me totally attracted to Henry, and completely respecting him as a man... and as a Duke. For some reason, I didn't like Irene. She came across as too strong willed and a little selfish with her agendas. I wasn't crazy about how the story centred a bit too much on politics and Irene's suffragette ambitions. I am a woman who believes in the rights of women, but, if I wanted to read a book about that, I would find one. I just wasn't in the mood for long drawn out political dialogue, and just wanted to listen to a well-written historical romance novel with an alluring story.
There was more dialogue than plot. Not as exciting as it started, and could have been, but it was a good story all in all.
Carolyn Morris is one of the best narrators out there. She contributed immensely to this book with her superb, clear and creative reading skills. I enjoyed the book much more because of her.

WORTH. YOUR. CREDIT.
This is my first Gurkhe novel and I am SWOONING. My favorites authors are Kinsale, Riley, and Kleypas — women who are excellent writers, honor the historical context of their chosen time period and use the conventions of the historical romance in really engaging ways. When you add a fantastic narrator to this ... well Houston, we have take off. Other reviewers
will give you a synopsis, I’ll give you the unvarnished truth: you will not regret this. There is actual, sustained conversation between the heroine and hero! The physical intimacy is interesting, funny and sweet (and HAWT!!!). There is sustained discussion of women’s roles in this time period, without being a lecture, and actually supporting the unfolding romance. The phrase: ‘a breath she didn’t know she was holding’ NEVER occurs in the novel! The narrator is OUTSTANDING. You’ll probably binge listen. It’s that good. Viva la romance!

Love the narrator, wish I could get my credit back
The narrator was great, loved her! The story not so much. I am so bummed I wasted a credit. I am all for a strong female lead. Usually its my favorite. Not this time. The heroine was the absolute worst. She was so arrogant and rude. Never apologetic and such a hypocrite. Worst of all she was so selfish and cared nothing for what her actions and words effected those around her. It was hard to finish and the only reason I did was because I was hoping she would be severely humbled by the end of the book and I would be satisfied with it. Did it ever happen? Nope. Never humbled. She occasionally feels guilt and then justifies herself and refuses to think about it a second time. Her attitude is the worst, and it completely ruins her modern and feminist ideals for me. For me, the author confused strong, empowered female lead with self-centered, proud female with a superiority complex. The Hero was better but not by much. He starts off as an arrogant male lead. With believable male ideas for the time it is set in. But he goes quickly from strong, male lead to kind of a wimp. He literally does everything the female lead says. She chews him out and says unfair things and he just takes it and then gives into whatever she wants in the end. All because he wants her so bad that he apparently can't control himself or think for himself anymore? His character arc was really going well at first and then by the end he was basically this big push over! He had so many valid points when he argued with the female lead (based solely on the time period of the book) and he just rolls over and lets her walk all over him after getting put down and we are supposed to take that as a strong female lead ahead of her time? Nope. Not buying it. She was unbearable to me. Relationships work both ways, but it was like he was trying to be noble and think of her the whole time and she is like yeah nope sorry you dont have a heart so go away. Then he give professes his love and gives into her demands and she plays the victim (after being super rude and unfair) and then gets upset cause he took too long. Ugh. I enjoy books wherr the strong female lead lifts the strong male lead up and makes him a better man. Not ones where the "strong" female lead gains her power by belittling the male lead.

OMG! 10 STAR STORY AND 10 STAR NARRATION!
I don't know where to begin. I absolutely loved this story! It was amazing.
These two main characters were fantastic together. Irene was smart, strong, witty and beautiful. No shy simpering female here! Loved her! She was honest and stood her ground. OH and Henry the Duke of Torquil was amazing! I loved his character. He needed those walls knocked down a bit but he was truly a wonderful man. The chemistry between these two was so fantastic and the sex scenes were so well written. Loved these two!
This story was so good. It has to be one of my favorite love stories I have read in a long long time. It was just great!
As for the narration. OMG IT WAS PERFECT! I think Carolyn Morris made this book even better with her voices and characterizations of Irene and Henry. Honestly one of the best narrators and I wish she narrated more and more books. I have listened to almost every book Carolyn Morris narrates and she just gets better and better. The men sound like men, every gets their own voice, the accents are great, she reads with emotion and her reading voice is a joy to listen too.
I know, I know, I am a huge fan of this narrator and I say this every time but every time I listen to her it just makes me happy to be an audible fan!
There are some narrators that shouldn't even be narrating and some narrators that should narrate all the books LOL and @carolyn_voice can narrate all the books!
This is a must listen!

Starts with a letter - ends with a letter
Any additional comments?
Lady Truelove is the Dear Abby of the late 1890s in England. Her advice to a Duchess has far reaching ramifications to the widow Duchess's family and her son, the Duke, believes Lady Truelove should put things right, or he will get revenge. Lady Truelove is a liberated woman who wants women to have the right to vote. She publishes a paper and she never intends to marry. She does not like the nobility, even though her mother was a Lady. She and the Duke have electricity shooting between them - some is outrage and some is passion. Oil and water. Maybe they will mix if things get hot enough.
Entertaining book - i enjoyed it and hated to have to stop.

" I want to love you Henry, but you make it impossible"
Beautifully written book. Very little is written about each character thoughts however the conversations ran very long. I was surprised as I am not used to these long scenes filled with back and forth conversations. As a result the number of scenes where anything happened were reduced drastically. I love less mind babble and more conversations in my books but I feel there needs to be more scenes and maybe a bit less conversation so that the story does not feel like a play. Overall however it was a wonderful book.
