Totally hooked!!
What a great book. I am ac fan of M R Carey & this latest did not disappoint. A brilliant follow up to the first in the trilogy. Good fun, lots of action, some very unique ideas interlaced with nods to the world now and what our near future may look like. I think this is a very clever idea and not at all like anything I’ve read before. Fantastic narration and all round would thoroughly recommend.

Brilliant follow up
I bought this one before finishing the previous one, I loved it just as much. Great imaginative storyline and superb narration. I bought the third before I finished this one.

Gripping story
I really like this series and find it hard to stop listening. A fascinating world. The narrators, especially Theo Solomon are very good. Looking forward to the last part.

Even better than book 1
I loved the first book in the trilogy and was enthralled by this, the second book. Book one set the scene and established characters brilliantly.This one progresses the plot in a very satisfactory way. I enjoyed the two narrators who succeeded in making the characters come to life. I particularly love the character Minono (not sure of the spelling; the only downside of audio books). There were some recognisable themes, having read The Girl With All The Gifts and its sequel. There were sections of this book I found chilling and thought provoking because of the current pandemic. I am fast becoming a huge fan of this author. I can confidently say that his is the best book I’ve bought this year. I enjoyed it even more than Margaret Atwood’s Mad Adam series which I didn’t think possible. I cannot wait for book three.

New favourite books
A friend recommended the Rampart series to me And I am so grateful for that recommendation, because this series has become my new favourite! Not only is this a great story… An engrossing tale of the highs and lows of an epic journey… But it is also beautifully written and narrated. It is a massive story, encompassing love and loss and the foolishness and bravery of the human race. The language is layered and intelligent and the story is both furious and funny. The characters are written in great depth and with great compassion and the landscape surrounding them is wonderfully imagined in tremendous and sometimes terrifying detail. I absolutely loved every one of the three books in the series
and I think that everybody should read them!
