Great Sci-fi Series

The Traveler series is a fast-paced dystopian sci-fi, alien invasion thriller. The storyline is very engaging, action-pack, loaded with suspense, drama, romance, twists, and turns. The characters are well-developed, intricate, and fascinating. The romance element is an added bonus, further engrossing the readers/listeners. Leah Sponburgh does a great job with the narration, bringing the characters to life. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Review

You definately have to be ready to hit the ground running in this action filled story that has all the chaos and panic of an alien invasion and everything that follows after that... You get to meet characters of all nationalities - or rather of all planets - that grab you and makes you love them or hate them with a passion and sometimes you feel both emotions as the story unfolds... I love how the author gets you to care about the characters and everything that happens to them... it sucks you in. All 3 books in this boxset are wonderfully written and I would love to see this story as a movie! I enjoyed the narrator and think she did a great job as this series has a lot of characters.

The man of her dreams???

Book one is The Traveler is past-present with views of how Rachel first meets Dex the man she fell in love with seven years ago, then he just disappeared, but now he is back and wants her dead! The Savior- A novella about the interim of the earth survivors. Book two - Rachel’s time in her new life, without Dex, with Dex and the battle against an evil king, Dex’s father. Interesting series, kind of dystopian, sci-fi, pn, and enjoyable, Leah Sponburgh was the narrator for the whole series.

Surprised by the high reviews,

Although maybe it's because I'm not the targeted audience. I think a teen girl would enjoy this more. But I'm a male in my thirties, and I just couldn't get passed the bad narration. The reader basically just read the text, with no real effort into making the characters sound interesting. If a character was supposed to be panicked, anxious, scared, or happy, you couldn't tell in the narrator's voice because it remained flat, when I expected it to show emotion. The story itself is average. Although a little too orientated towards romance than I cared for. A younger female reader might appreciate that too.

Another genre from this amazing author

Melissa has a few names that she writes under. I’m amazed at all of her work. Wonderful characters and amazing details abound. This dystopian series was such a wonderful escape from the world and I devoured it. Leah Sponburgh is a new narrator for me. She does a great job. At times I wanted more distinction between male and female characters but I did really enjoy her voice and cadence in this series. Get this box set if you live action and alien encounters. It has so many emotions that it raises and you won’t be able to stop reading or listening to it until it is done. I was given this audiobook and this is my honest review.

Thrilling and fast paced

Very fast paced read. Almost too much going on at times, it made me think I might have missed something, and I don’t like that feeling. I think if the book slowed down and the narrator slowed down just a hair, it would have been much more enjoyable. I also think that there was a lot of time jumping, and if that could have had a different sound it would have made it more recognizable as a flash back, but the narrator plowed thru and it took a second to realized this is happening in the past, there was not different infection to the tone of voice or any sound effect or anything. Other than those few things, I thought this was a refreshing read that had me hooked. I really liked the world building and characters.

attention grabbing & captivating

I like to go into a book with no knowledge of the story sometimes. I'm glad I did with this series. It was entertaining at the start, seemed like a realistic fiction, then BOOM! Aliens. Characters were well developed and the writing was such that I was able to picture every moment. Will absolutely read again.

Amazing amazing!

* I got a copy of this audiobook set at my request in exchange for an honest review * It's the first time I listen to a book well books by Melissa Delport, and I have to say I love her style! The books are packed with action scenes from the very beginning which was a total surprise for me. Glued to the story from the start I discovered strong heroines and characters with depth. I admit I didn't see some twists coming and changing the plot... I'm glad I could listen to to the whole set, I can't imagine having to wait for the books to be released!

Entertaining Series! Fun Alien Invasion Premise!

I listened to the audio for the boxset of this series. Love that I could get the audio with all 3 books in it. The narration was okay. She did a clear performance and fit the characters well enough; the narration just didn't flow at times. Still I'd recommend it. Really enjoyed this series as a whole! Lots of entertainment and a fun premise. Here are my reviews for each book in this boxset. Review for Book 1 - The Traveler - 4 stars The writing and premise is a little basic, but I love alien invasion stories so I rated this a 4. Add in some romance and I'm entertained. I liked that the characters are a bit older; in their mid 20's. I appreciated that there was a touch more maturity to the story. Rachel works as a news anchor when Earth begins to be invaded by aliens (humanoid type aliens). These aliens have some interesting powers; controlling the weather being one of them. Rachel is shocked when one of the aliens is none other than a guy she fell in love with years ago, Dex. Dex has done some very bad things and is dangerous, but Rachel can't help but want to trust him. Love that this story gets right into the action! Rachel and some others need to find a way to survive and take these aliens out before they take over Earth. Entertaining story the whole way through. There's some sweet romance too. Liked the forbidden aspect between Dex and Rachel; they have a nice connection. Looking forward to seeing where these characters end up; this one ends with more questions that need to be answered. On to the next book! Review for book 1.5 - The Survivor - 3 stars This is a very short book about what's happening on Earth after the aliens invaded. You should definitely start with book 1 before reading this short story. Rachel went with Dex and his alien siblings into Space; Dex's father was supposed to stop invading Earth, but Dex's father is a liar. This short story focuses on Darren and Kate; friends of Rachel's, as they try to survive. There's a bit of romance and a bit of action, but I wish there was a bit more to the story. It is a short story, but I still needed a bit more. There is a cliffhanger. Looking forward to reading the next book. Excited to catch up with Rachel in Space! Review for book 2 - Saviour - 4 stars Fun conclusion to this series! Enjoyed the Space adventure Rachel finds herself on. Make sure to start with book 1 of this series before reading this. Rachel finds herself in a very dangerous situation when Dex's evil father tried to have her killed. Luckily, Dex's brother, Amarox, thinks fast and ends up saving her life, but things don't exactly go smoothly. Rachel finds herself in multiple dangerous situations; trying to take out an evil alien overlord is tough work, but she also finds support in some unexpected allies. Dex is still with his father, so he's not there to help Rachel. Rachel is a tough cookie though, and proves she's a force to be reckoned with. Entertaining story the whole way through! I would've loved a bit more romance; I was a bit disappointed with Dex, but there's still some sweet moments. The writing is still a bit basic, but the story has some unique elements that kept me engrossed. Enjoyed the whole series!

Story is great!

Melissa Delport is becoming one of my favorite authors. Her stories are entertaining, unique and I hate pausing them. This set was no different. I didn't want the story to end. The narrator needs work sadly. She may have been new, I don't know, but she mispronounces a good handful of easy words. She tries to be enthusiastic by putting some drama into the voices of each character. But I found myself giggling because it's just so amateur. But I still really enjoyed the books, especially in audio. I can go through way more books this way. I get to "read" while working. This box set is very much worth your time and money based on the story line, but just know this isn't pro quality yet.

Slow start to a terrific series

It was a very slow start and didn’t grab me and pull me in for several chapters but, I stuck it out and I’m glad I did. Once it did pull me in it was a great story!

Very good story

At first it was hard for me to get into this book, especially because the book kept moving from the present to the past without any notice, so I found it very confusing to keep track of what was happening. I also have a huge bugbear about the "girl can't live without the guy"angle that is so popular in YA fiction, but as I got more and more into the story, I was able to ignore it and just focus on the rest of the story, which was very good and eventually completely pulled me in. Overall I really enjoyed this series. I liked the new take on the dystopian state brought on by these very human-like but powerful aliens. I liked how their characters developed throughout the series but wish we saw more things through their eyes (especially Amarox and their sister, whose name I can't spell because I listened to the audiobook). I also wish Melissa spent a bit more time on creating the imagery of the other planets, or that they were not so completely like earth because most of the time it just felt like they were back in New York. I listened to the audiobook version from Audible, but the narrator wasn't very good even though she has a very nice voice and I felt the voice suited the main character, Rachel, her pacing was just off for this kind of story. I had to speed up the playback quite a lot before I got to a comfortable listening level.
