fantasic development of the story.

Summary
Book three of the Ciaphas Cain series.
An old rival, infighting with fellow Astra Militarum regiments and the small matter of a cult devoted to the Chaos God Slaanesh derail Commissar Cain's hope for a quiet and uneventful mission.
Ciaphas Cain's latest mission takes him and his Valhallan regiment to the planet of Adumbria to defend against an approaching Chaos invasion. However, infighting with fellow Imperial Guard regiments from the world of Tallarn, commanded by an old 'friend' of Cain's from the Schola Progenium and the uprising of a sinister cult on the planet puts paid to any hopes of an easy life.

Great story and performance, poor editing
I have really enjoyed listening to the Ciaphas Cain series, and the performances of the voice actors is fantastic, really helping you to become immersed.
My only real criticism of this story (compared to the earlier books) is the lack of editing. There are at least 5 or 6 occasions in the book where actors made mistakes and reread their lines which have not been edited out. It’s a shame because it doesn’t show Warhammer 40k in its best light, giving the casual listener the impression that the Black Library is an amateur outfit as opposed to the professional and immersive appearance that the books, games and tabletop have always had.

another excellent adventure from Cain. a few editing errors, where the reader restarts a sentence 2 or 3 times, also where one reader begins over another. these are hopefully fixed soon.

Everything I expected and more
As an unabashed fan of the Caiaphas series, this is everything I could've ever wanted out of the book. The voice acting from everyone is on point (the fact alone that we get so many talented readers in one single piece is remarkable) and the story is deliciously satisfying in almost every regard. My one complaint is, as have certainly been stated by better reviewers than I, is the overuse of the various derivations of the phrase "...and if I had known that, I would've certainly..." but the end result is absolutely gratifying. An easy listen, and a compelling (if at times predictable, though the author makes up for it in spades) story that leaves you almost unable to put the book on pause.

Classic Cain, editing isn't really a problem
People seem to complain and rate this lower because of it's editing. This really isn't an issue to be honest. You will barely notice it apart from once it twice and it will last seconds.
Classic Cain fun, personally after taking a bit of a break from Cain stories I found it great to dive back into the humour and wit, but I can imagine if you've been listening to them back to back it might seem like more of the same.
For what it sets out to do, it does a great job.

Narrator’s audio outtakes literally left in
Good book but there are a few places where you can hear the narrator mess up on his lines a few times and try again. Really jarring and kind of broke the immersion so hopefully they push an update to fix this.
Besides that though, this is classic Ciaphas Cain. My one complaint about the story is it kinda makes chaos marines seem a bit easier to kill than one would expect but that’s just a minor nitpick.

Fixed The Recording Issues, Worth Every Second
The top review here talks about how there are bloopers left in the recording, and i guess, by the glory of the Emperor, someone went back and fixed it. There were parts that definitely played over each other for a fraction of a second, but nowhere near enough to take away from Steven's amazing reading of one of my favorite characters in the Warhammer 40k universe.
