There’s magic in a book …

Max always felt too ordinary for the magical village of Lampton. No place more so than her mum’s bookshop, where the recommendations are more than just a matter of taste – they’re magic.

When Max’s mum dies suddenly, she leaves her daughter Lamplight Books and makes one last wish: that Max would spend a year working in the bookshop before she sells it.

Max has no desire to uproot her busy life in the city to return to a place that always made her feel inadequate, but she can’t ignore her mum’s last request. So she decides on a trial run of two weeks – if she can’t even last that long, then a year would be impossible…

@hqstories thank you for the gifted copy, I know it's been a while since, I have wrote a review but to be honest I have been in a slump. I haven't been able to focus as much or engage in a book. I followed with the story whilst listening 🎧 to the audiobook.

Having that journey of discovering who you are and the grief that you go through and the process of all those emotions. When you look at the past and know in your heart that you miscommunicate with your family and friends and your home town. You lost that part of yourself whilst discovering another version of yourself. After returning to your hometown, and having the steps in your grief and the healing process and being able to accept your mistakes and the mistakes of others. You become who you always are and have that closure that you always felt like you needed. You carry everything to the next day at a time. And who doesn't love working in a bookshop. It's hard work but what you love is what you are.
