Hans Christian Andersen
This is a story from the Andersen's Fairy Tales collection.
The world of Hans Christian Andersen is seen through the eyes of children. There is the everyday wonder of an ugly duckling being transformed into a swan; the puffed-up Emperor being fooled by his own importance; the tender tragedy of a little match girl; the upright honesty of John rewarded by his traveling companion. By bringing true feelings to these stories, Andersen's tales have become part of universal folklore.

A poor soldier is returning home when a witch asks him to retrieve a magic tinderbox. When he has it is in his possession, he kills the witch, and assumes its powers and fortune, which includes three magical dogs that are able to do his bidding. But it is a dangerous power that soon finds him in peril, sentenced to death by the King and Queen. Will the tinderbox save him? Children will be especially entertained by the delightful performance of Erica Johns, who brings a joyous and committed spirit to this fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
