Summary
Love is in the air?
Luca is used to being the ‘single one’ at weddings - it happens, when all your other friends are engaged, married or taken. But when she bumps into Tom, her friend from university who broke her heart into a million pieces, she finds herself wondering what could have been.
It’s 10 years later, surely she should be over that Tom by now? So why is he looking even more gorgeous than ever - and why doesn’t he seem to be able to keep his eyes off her either?
And as the champagne flows and old secrets resurface, Luca realises that perhaps the time to take a chance on love and life is...now?

Awful narration
The story was very good and I usually really like Portia Macintosh’s books, but the narration was truly awful. Ruined the book for me

AWFUL NARRATION but good story
I love PORTIA MACINTOSH books and now I have listened to all of them up to date 4th Aug 2022.
The story was good but the narration and accents by Rachael Beresford were awful and that really does take away from the actual novel.
I am happy to know that all other books by Portia are narrated by the brilliant Karen Cass.
Karen Cass seems to bring the story and characters to life with so much joy and hilarity.

Good story, bad narration
I urge you to buy the book and read it yourselves. The narration on this was awful, the accents were terrible. It ruined the book for me.

Whispering Narrator
The story was good but the narrator was just awful. Some of the worst accents I've ever heard the Scouser the Glaswegian and the Welsh were barely distinguishable. They all sounded the same. I don't understand why they pick narrators that really can't do accents. And when she spoke as the main character she did this breathy whispering voice which was just so annoying really detracted from the story.

Disjoined
The narrator was a little disappointing and the story was disjointed and hard to follow. Naming the chapters “now” should have been “present day” as when narrating this is confusing.

Eek
Ok. So to start with this isn’t Portia’s best book though it definitely improves. The narration though… Rachael has clearly never heard of Glasgow, nor ever stepped foot in Scotland!!! She seems to think they sound Jamaican? Or Welsh? Not a huge issue if A - she was consistent or B - the book didn’t repeatedly refer to his accent!! Honestly, eek is all I have to say.

Dreadful Narration, TORTURE
Not her best story either but the narration was torture. Disjointed and honestly the worst attempts at accents ever. Can’t quite believe the publishing house thought this ok to put out.
I’ve listened to most of the other Portia Macintosh books with Karen Cass narrating and they are samey, but good. You know what you’re getting. Don’t waste money on this one.

What a let down
Overall the story isn’t that bad. I love Portia’s books because they have a basic easy to follow story line that moves on quickly. They are good “ put your headphones on and get on with your house work/chores” listening. But… and this is a big but, and I am not trying to be mean but.. the narrator is awful. Her monotone voice from start to finish is almost unbearable to listen to. She is trying to do accents of Scottish, Welsh and Liverpudlian characters that are seriously the worst I have ever heard, especially the Welsh one!! It sounds Jamaican! The Scottish one does not sound any different to the other ones. The Liverpudlian one has some better moments.
I am really trying my hardest not to be mean and hurt anyones feelings but it is a bit of a slog to get through.
Karen cass is the narrator for all of Portias other books and she brings joy and excitement when it’s needed and sadness and melancholy when it’s needed and it always hits the right spot! This however is just not it!

Difficult to listen to
I was so looking forward to another hilarious book by MacIntosh, but I was so disappointed. I hadn’t even got through the prologue and I wanted a refund. I tried to dub the voice for Karen’s but that was so hard once the appalling accents started. Please please please redo it with Karen’s voice, I didn’t laugh once through the whole book.
