Story
When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Summary
"A thrilling, pulse-pounding addition to the genre with compelling science and a frightening twist." (Nicholas Sansbury Smith, NY Times and USA Today best-selling author of the Extinction Cycle and Hell Divers series)
This audiobook contains the first four audiobooks of the Tide series, filled with post-apocalyptic action, suspense, and intrigue.
A devastating bioweapon will change the face and fate of humanity as we know it.
Captain Dominic Holland leads a crew of skilled covert operatives and scientific personnel aboard a clandestine ship dedicated to fighting chemical and biological warfare. Their missions have taken them across the world to combat sinister plots and dangerous adversaries. But their next assignment is more dangerous than any they faced before.
Far off the Eastern Coast of the US, intelligence officers discover a covert laboratory on an abandoned oil rig with unspeakable horrors. Twisted creatures wash ashore across the country. Hospitals are overrun by patients suffering from an incurable disease with terrifying symptoms.
Dom and his team may be the only ones equipped to find out why. They embark on a globe-trotting race to unravel the apocalyptic mystery behind the bioweapon destroying civilization.
But will their efforts be enough to turn the tide - or is humanity’s fate already sealed?

VFM - Value From Mayhem
What excellent value for money this is. Almost 40 hours of post-apocalyptic mayhem for one credit, four books of a series that rarely takes a breath and barrels along at an impressive pace. It's almost enough to make me end my official mourning period that the Arisen Series finished!
The Tide sees a rather nasty virus devastate the human race and then follows a select group of characters as they try to survive and find ways to rescue humanity. That's hardly treading new ground and of course the fact that humans prove to be as dangerous as the monsters will also come as no surprise.
However, the monsters get some rather tasty upgrades making The Walking Dead look like The Walk in the Park by comparison. There's some nice invention here and it adds to the action which comes thick and fast in a relentless . . . well yes, tide!
It's not perfect but the narration is good and there are some excellent set piece scenes throughout these first four books including early on in the bowels of an oil rig and later in a variety of scenarios. Some of the writing does get a bit repetitive at times and I wouldn't class Melchiorri as the greatest in terms of character development or dialogue.
BUT, this does have something in a grab a bag of popcorn and let the horrors unfold kind of way and given the value of four books in one you can't really lose by choosing it.

Sling-along-a sunshine
I enjoyed the collection and it is good value, although it has a couple of small quibbles and one huge one that is rectified namely Weapon Slings hahaha! Dear lord the amount of times I almost turned it off or was screaming internally “ffs Slings!” And weapons were scattered across floors was almost unbearable BUT the author fixed it “Phew” honestly a relief, and possibly the best part of it lol but it is book four so it takes a while. Other than that a Good solid set with excellent Z’s that are actually a test. Looking forward to the next few books.

Exciting page turner
Exciting story with characters you can care about. I love post apocalyptic genres, but really prefer natural disaster type stories. This book was a very pleasant surprise, because I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. This book is a combination of bio weapon come disaster survivalist. Lots of action and a certain amount of reference to scientific research aspects. The narrator Ryan Kennard Burke does a great job at interpreting the characters and giving an appropriate voice to each. The reading pace is steady and not too slow or fast. The listener will feel the energy in the narration during the exciting occurrences. I feel these books lend themselves well to Audible consumption, not sure how well I would receive them in written form and I feel that the fighting scenes were easy to follow as an audio book, but might become less engaging in the written book. On the other hand, those who love war and battle stories might find it just as appealing in written form. I recommend this audio book for those who enjoy survivalist stories with lots of excitement and battle. I know the author Anthony J Melchiorri has written more in this series and very likely I will select some for future consumption.

A diffrtent kind of zombie.
I listened to all 4 books consecutively. I kept thinking I'd go for a change of pace, but curiosity kept pulling me back. All 4 books are full of suspence and terror. The creatures that threaten mankind aren't your run of the mill zombie, but an even more ferocious beast, with zombie like qualities. These books are hard to put down, or turn off, if you listen to the audiobook version.

Great Value, Was Hard to Get Through
I get that I'm in the minority here, but I found this series very hard to get through. I can only sum it up by saying that once you've listened to the first four hours, you've heard the entire 37. It's just a constant battle without a break. The lack of a deeper story wore on me. I did finish it but it took a long time.
I normally enjoy zombie-type stories, but this was like getting hit in the face by a wave that never swelled or ebbed.

Can bloody hand to hand get boring? Yes.
By the end of book four (actually, book2), the action was positively repetitive, predictable, and simplistic. I could sum it up for you, but I'm not going to. Was there anything other than lots of improbably successful hand to hand (yes, even KNIFE) action with strong, fast, clawed, bullet resistant, infectious, demons? No, not really. In fairness, there were a few scenes where someone where somebody brought appropriate hardware... but somehow I seem to have missed every action where somebody brought out a 50cal to put down a Goliath... I know I would have used it for that, but what do I know, a scar-h ought to do it! So, if things like 'characters', 'plot', 'realistic action', 'plausible behavior', and the like are important in your books? You shouldn't waste your money. Leave this one for the dollar store.
