Summary
Rita and Rosie Stevens are only nine and five years old when their widowed mother marries a violent bully. Under pressure from her new husband, she is persuaded to send the girls to an orphanage.
It is not long before the powers that be decide to send a consignment of orphans to their sister institution in Australia. Among them, without their family's consent or knowledge, are Rita and Rosie, the throwaway children.

thoroughly great listen
Not what I expected but thoroughly enjoyed. Despite the sadness that this story evokes.. I could not put it down. I found it very easy to follow the characters on their journey and did not want the book to end.

Hard to stop listening, emotional and very well written
Diney addresses a really tough subject with care and detail. This is not an easy book to listen to, some parts are quite harrowing, however only as far as the story required not just for the sake of it.
Very good story telling and an amazingly well read.

A very good listen!
This story gripped me right from the start. An emotional roller coaster ride. Had me weeping at one point. Although it is a story, l believe it is based on truths about the past.
The narrator is excellent, capturing the characters dialogues and accents brilliantly!
Definitely recommend this for both a listen and a read.

Found a new favorite author
This is very well written. parts of the story are hard to listen to but it had me hooked straight away. I've ended up buying more of Dineys stories as I love the way she has described and developed the story. Narrator was great and all the characters were distinguishable.

Lovely story
History is cruel and this story explains a time when circumstances dictated a destiny that must have been quite difficult to handle.
I loved this story, it was lengthy and so descriptive that I often heard myself sighing out loud.
An enjoyable, easy to listen to book.

Best book ever!
This was the best book I’ve heard/read. Full of emotions, and so well written and narrated. I struggled to switch off and was late for work on occasions, and wanted it to go on forever!
