Summary

After the brutal homicide of a woman, the Oslo Police Force know exactly whom to call: brilliant and unorthodox police investigator Harry Hole. When he suspects a link with one of his cold cases, it's a race against time to catch the elusive killer.

There's a new killer on the streets.

A woman is found murdered after an Internet date. The marks left on her body show the police that they are dealing with a particularly vicious killer.

He's in your house.... He's in your room....

Under pressure from the media to find the murderer, the force know there's only one man for the job. But Harry Hole is reluctant to return to the place that almost took everything from him. Until he starts to suspect a connection between this killing and his one failed case.

He's out for blood....

When another victim is found, Harry realises he will need to put everything on the line if he's to finally catch the one who got away.

Very good but not mind blowing.

Would you listen to The Thirst again? Why?

I've read all the Harry Huole books and so the formulae does not surprise. wasn't so ectatic during the first half, with all the descriptive murders, and red herrings flying all over the place, but the last third really started to move and I became totally hooked, and was constantly thrown off my guard. BUt oh dear I hope that is the end of the vampires...........couldn't cope with another lot! Sean Barrett is just superb at narrating, but I kept finding the change between paragraphs, where Nesbo changes to a different character and situation confusing, in a book you would see the paragraph indent, but there wasn't enough time lapse in the recording.

Back from the dead

Very happy that Harry Hole is back again. This book is very well written, exceptional narrated and full of twists and turns as usual. Fantastic to have the opportunity to enjoy another of these masterpieces.

Another great book

I love all the Harry Hole novels. The only issue I have is the twenty to thirty pages at the end of every book which are completely implausible. Up until he turns into some kind of invincible escape artist these books are compelling page turners with fascinating characters and an intelligent plot.

Well read and engaging

This was my first Jo Nesbo book which I found engaging and enjoyable. My only question concerns crime fiction generally, and that is, have crime writers always written in a style to suit the way it would look on the big screen? It’s a good listen and it’s well read, but you can’t help but give it the Hollywoodisation in your mind because that’s the style it’s written in. Worth a listen still.

Good but no surprises

Compared to previous books this was back to basics with classic Hole, all the better, and worse, for it.

A few characters seem too unaffected by their back stories (e.g. Oleg is completely fine now? So is Katarina? Trulse is a hero?) which is frustrating. Also I was never sold on the motive of the killer, we weren't given enough to buy into his reasoning.

Simply Excellent

Classic Nesbo, Classic Hole, possibly my favourite to date. Hopeful of many more Harry Hole adventures to come.

Harry at his very best

Would you listen to The Thirst again? Why?

Yes. The complexity and labyrinthine plots within a plot make for a very interesting and colourful story

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Thirst?

From beginning to end there are moments of tension, far too many to select just one.

Which character – as performed by Sean Barrett – was your favourite?

Harry of course. Sean Barrett has done credit to a well-crafted story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did and it was well worth it. Carrying earphones around for hours, being in another Harry world

Any additional comments?

Sit, hear and be Harry. Simple, but what a dangerous commitment.
