About this listen

Two best friends. Buried feelings. A secret holding them apart.

Two friends since university, each holding something back.

Tilly's been running from her secrets for far too long. Evie, carrying a buried flame for Tilly since they met, has always been there to welcome Tilly back with open arms. That is, after all, what one does for a friend.

When Evie unexpectedly falls pregnant, she's left with a lot of hard decisions to make. That includes choices about Tilly and the way she's been disappearing on her randomly for over a decade.

Tilly wants nothing more than to be there for Evie, who's been her anchor to return to time and time again. But what does supporting her look like when sticking around becomes an important part of that?

A romance about growing up - whatever that means - and realizing that even if it hurts, sometimes change is for the best.

Contains mature themes.

I loved this book. Funny, real, heartbreaking. I laughed out loud at points, and felt real sympathy for the chaacters. Another excellent piece by G Benson, beautifully narrated too.

Another emotional rollercoaster

What i loved about this book is G. Bensons ability to weave intersectionality and the complex relationships of family, friendships and chosen family throughout their work.
G. Benson focuses on the emotional and psychological relationships of the characters with less focus on the sexual aspects. Sometimes queee romance novels lose the essence of a meaningful storyline because of a heavy focus on sexual content. I know what goes on between the sheets, what intrigues me is what is happening in the hearts and minds of characters. G.Benson gets the balance just right IMO.

Quick while 'The Thing About Tilly' is still in the 'Plus Catalogue' ! I am pleased I didn't spend a credit on this very long winded story! The narrator takes some getting used to and isn't very good at bringing the different characters to life.
I nearly gave in after a couple of hours but stuck with-it, fortunately it got better towards the end. I gave the story 4 stars because of the latter. I like that Tilly and Evie made such a sweet couple. The Author played a bit of a cruel 'joke' on us in the epilogue but I won't spoil that for you !
