Summary

A thief turned reluctant protector. A countess who resents but can't resist him.

The Reiver

Sir Geoffrey has dedicated his life to exacting revenge on the men who killed his parents and stole his birthright. The son of a baron, he has been reduced to stealing the resources he needs to reclaim his family legacy. Just when he's on the verge of success, his uncle asks him to put his plans on hold to help protect a wealthy countess. It's a distraction Geoffrey resents, even more so when he meets Lady Sara. The gorgeous, complicated, and alluring lady is everything he'd want in a woman - and everything he can't have.

The Countess

With her betrothed coming to claim her hand in marriage and a distant cousin intent on usurping her earldom, Lady Sara Caiser feels beset by controlling, unwanted men. As if that weren't enough, her father's deathbed request was for two lawless border reivers to serve as her protectors. Despite her misgivings, an undeniable attraction pulls her into Sir Geoffrey's arms. The man she thought nothing more than a thief is more dangerous than she believed, for he's noble, caring, and sinfully attractive. As the threats against her continue to mount, Sara must decide what's more important - her duty or her heart.

The Thief's Countess, set in 13th century Northumbria, is the first book in a historical romance series. If you like strong female heroines, alpha male types, and sizzling romance, you'll love the first full-length installment of the Border series. Transport yourself to the medieval world of The Thief's Countess today!

Really awful narration

it's such a pity to ruin a really good story with such awful narration. Her voice was so monotonous. The hero sounded like a robot and a sergeant major st times, even while they were making love. I can't understand why audible don't even bother with choosing decent narrators. The narrator of the prequel of this series was very good I liked him. Unfortunately book 1, 2 and 3 are all with this same narrator. But then the rest of the books are with Tim Campbell narrating so that is why I am trying to bare listening to the first ones so that I can listen to the whole series. Cant wait to get to book 4. There are 10 books of this Border series.
I will definitely listen to the prequel and from book 4 to 10 again as I love Cecelia Mecca's stories. But definitely won't be listening to 1, 2 and 3 again, I won't bare listening to this narrator again.

Yikes!

To be clear I love a good historical romance. But this was so BORING! It just seemed to drag on, and on, and on. There was never really any plot. Just when things seemed like they were about to take off, the problems were resolved without any climax. Some examples: She gets kidnapped, and immediately rescued. They get caught in a compromising situation, and nothing happens! The writing was immature, the author used too many unnecessary adjectives and the historical details seemed like an afterthought, The narration was also poor. She sounded robotic at times, and the accents were atrocious.

The Thief's Countess

Border drivers sent to protect a Countess from a threat from a so called cousin. He wanted her home, her lands, and her titles. He would do just about anything to get them from her. Including lie about having the Kong's ear and the help of another earl.
The border thieves are there for one thing and one thing only. To protect the countess until the chosen husband comes to takes his bride. But the misplaced Lord cannot stop his heart from falling for the beauty.
Will they risk every thing for their love or will dictate to her dead father's wishes and marry the earl ?

Loved this!

This is the first great book of many in this series. I loved the characters and how strong willed the heroine in this story is. The storyline is quite entertaining and the author did a great job with the writing. The narrator did a good job at bringing the authors words to life.

Her protector

A deathbed promise and duty to her home has this spirited lady on a path to an arranged marriage. Until a handsome riever is sent to protect her. Love was not in the equation, duty must come first. Unless a way can be found around it. Great author and narrator. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.

Narration for male voices sound mechanical YUK -

The story is pleasant and has a nice predictable ending, an easy listen except for when the reader does the male voices and goes into a grating mechanical mode. I am not one to usually pick on narrations but this was one of the worse I heard. I barely could stand to finish the book and will not be listening to the rest of the series unfortunately. .

A True Romance & Great Experience of Another Time

A truly sigh worthy and epic romance, I was completely swept away. The world-building is excellent, and we can feel the characters from the start. It's wonderful getting to know Geoffrey and Sara. A turbulent time, their love shouldn't be, yet is so undeniable. It's wonderful seeing how the characters are revealed and their relationship grows as the story progesses. I don't spoil anything but I will say this is one romance to pick up asap. This is a voluntary review of a copy gifted by the author. She is a consistent writer, and the experience is enhanced even more in the audio version. Highly recommend for sure.
