About this listen

Perfect listening for fans of Ruth Ware and Alex Michaelides.

When a young woman is discovered brutally murdered in her own apartment, with an intricate pattern of lines carved into her face, Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. They very quickly establish a link between the victim, Julie Stender, and her complex landlady, Esther de Laurenti. Esther also turns out to be a budding novelist - and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the still-unfinished mystery she's writing, the link between fiction and real life grows more urgent.

But is Esther guilty or merely another victim in a far more dangerous game of vengeance? Anette and Jeppe must dig more deeply into the two women's pasts to discover the secret that links them both.

not a cozy crime listener in any way or form as you will find if you listen to this but all the same I would like to see a system on Audible for some sort of rating of what l & many view as excessive descriptive violence. A like they have a 🌶️ on spicy foods for instance. would save a lot of time searching for a new read.

clever Scandi noir . No gratuitous blood and gore.

I hate to say it as I know it’s an art form but the voice of the narrator doesn’t really suit the story. It’s like hearing your granddad talk about erections. He’s got a great voice but may be suited to something a bit more beige. As it is he just give a beige slant to an otherwise interesting story. Sorry Graeme.

Good story. Shame about the voice

...an intriguing tale. Well read, though it did take a little time getting used to the narrator, would have liked a Scandinavian reader, but still a great audio.

Gripping...
