Dark Adventure Radio Theatre presents a thrilling oldtime radio dramatization of Lovecraft’s tale of undersea madness. The story bounds to life with a cast of professional actors, thrilling sound effects and an original orchestral score by Troy Sterling Nies. The Dark Adventure Radio Theatre shows are like movies you can enjoy with your eyes closed.

As the Great War drags on, German Uboats prowl the North Atlantic, torpedoing military and civilian vessels alike. When a shipwrecked man is recovered at sea, he tells a strange and disturbing tale of his experience on a German submarine. Has the experience driven him mad, or did his voyage reveal unseen monstrosities at the bottom of the ocean?

well performed. put me in mind of the old radio plays of the early C20... enjoyable story and fictional ad breaks promoting hazardous substances people would never use today, at least not as health products.

zany stuff...

slightly different to the written story, as originally it was told by one person who didn't survive, but this is a fantastic adaptation, highly recommended!

excellent adaptation!

The risk with the HPLHS productions are that whilst the performance and overall execution of content is superb, they love to adapt and reinvent the stories. sometimes this pays off and provides a wonderfully colourful alternative to the original audio stories available, but like with The Temple, sometimes the changes cheapen or at least detract from what made the original tale so great. It's not awful, and in glad to have it in my library, but it's not their best unfortunately.

Does the job!

I always adore Dark Pictures and their style of presentation; I wouldn't have bothered to read the original story otherwise. Sadly the story felt mediocre, the American side pointless as it didn't add anything and the villain was cliché. I'd recommend better known Dagon which I'm gonna listen to next!

Started mediocre, ended mediocre
