Summary

A few days before the summer solstice, a 92-year-old woman is found burned to death in her home. On the same day, a man's mutilated corpse is discovered, his arms ripped from their sockets, with a tarot card depicting the Fool inserted in his mouth.

When the victim is identified as someone for whom the police have been looking for almost a year, detectives Anderson and Costello find themselves caught up in a case where nothing is as it seems.

"Masterful writing, vivid characters, and a highly imaginative, terrifying, and byzantine plot." ( Booklist)

Good story and narration

I enjoyed this book, not quite as much as the previous Caro Ramsey Anderson and Costello books but definitely worth listening to.

Great story, and great narration

This book and another was free with my Audible membership. Having listened to them I now intend to purchase the other books in the series. Great that you can find out if you like an author before making a big investment in their writing.

The plots and characters are great, really enjoyable. Highly recommend

A tad muddled

I found the story hard to follow and the plot was a bit far fetched. There were bits of the plot that
Just didn't seem plausible even for a murder mystery. I love the narrator, and having run out of Rebus novels tried Anderson and Costello. The stories are ok and fine for a freebie, but don't think i would pay for them.

A bit muddled

I did enjoy listening to this book but it was very easy to lose the plot in places! There are a lot of characters and, unfortunately, even the narrator (although I think he's great on the whole) seemed to get confused himself! During episodes of abundant dialogue it was often difficult to tell who was talking and this led to some confusion on my part. I do enjoy the Anderson & Costello books and I rate James Macpherson very highly as a narrator but I think, on this occasion, it failed in places. It hasn't/wouldn't prevent me seeking out further titles by this author or narrator though.

This book needs an over18 certificate!

Another book where I have failed to get past chapter one, because of the gross and morbid détails of a very gruesome case. Maybe I’m being over sensitive but this is the stuff of nightmares. Sorry, not for me.

Enjoyable read

This was a very enjoyable read although I struggled to believe it was set on Loch Lomond. The absolute delight was James MacPherson's narration. He usually brings a story to life with his range of voices.
