Summary

Like many other philosophical writings, "The Tao Te Ching" is a timeless Chinese treasure. These ancient writings are credited to Lao Tzu, although some believe them to be authored by a number of persons writing under the Lao Tzu pen name. Nevertheless, this audio gives the listener a taste of the wisdom of age and the important values of human existence.

A bit anglicized translation, but serviceable

... and you can't beat the price. It is perfectly alright, if a bit archaic-English in style (the rhyming bits are mildly awkward, with a bit of Church-of-England sort of redolence for my taste). It is a fine starter Tao te Ching. I like the narrator, who read Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra quite well in a very affordable version here as well.

Do not do something else while listening

Amazing and life changing knowledge. Do yourself a favor and devote the time to listen and/or read along and/or take notes. Consider breaking your study into multiple parts. Don't expect to listen while in the car, at the gym, walking to work, etc.

No frills version of the great Chinese work

who can dispute the text of Tao Te Ching, ot is brilliant. Sometimes when jave I listened to an eastern spiritual text, the narrator tries to speak in a calming voice. I sometimes find it distracting. While I was browsing through all the versions I noticed the same calming voice in all the narrations. This one is different and I liked how the narrator narrated this book.

It's narrated in an awfully distracting way.

This is not supposed to be a poetry book so I don't get why the narrator treats it as such. It's awfully distracting and not at all compelling. If you want relaxation look for another version...
