From the eleventh storey of a Los Angeles high-rise, Nate looks out on the city - the traffic, the trees, the beach beyond. He breathes deeply. And then he moves one foot off the ledge and into thin air.

But before he can jump, gunshots ring out from within the building.

A robbery is in progress. And Nate, with nothing to lose but the life he was about to give up, decides to intervene.

What happens next plunges Nate into mortal danger . . . and reunites him with the family he hasn't known for years - a family he will do anything to protect.

Packed with twists and suspense, hurtling forward at relentless speed, The Survivor is a gripping, unforgettable story of sacrifice, redemption and heroism - a thriller to rival the very best of Linwood Barclay and Harlan Coben.©2012 Gregg Hurwitz (P)2014 Audible, Inc.

A great story, well written and extremely well read. Loved every minute.

A most enjoyable read

I really enjoyed most of this book it was just the rather graphic explanations of truly gruesome torture that got to me. The plot was excellent and an interesting take on the way someone who knows they have little time left deals with some of the violence sent his way. A good listen if you are not squeamish. Interesting characters and fairly well read.

A really good plot

A touching story of love, courage, bravery and heroics. This book kept me on tenterhooks. The main character had chosen to take his own life but instead of doing so he intervened and halted a robbery taking place in the bank he was about to jump from. What follows is a several days of him being terrorised by the surviving members of the group. Although the reason for the robbery becomes clear later in the book, (and it wasn't for money) the author didn't make it feel weak like some books where you think, is that what it was for? The ending is not what I expected but blew this book out of the water. Initially the narrator's voice was annoying but I gradually got used to it and it fitted well with the story. Thoroughly enjoyed it and well worth the credit.

Excellent book

The plotline for this book grabbed me & it started fairly well keeping my attention. As the story unfolds there are parts where it's literally unbelievable & I almost stopped listening. This had nothing to do with the narrator but, that said, his female voices all sounded the same and whinny. I also didn't understand the 'dead friend' who started off as a real character in the story but recurred throughout after dying, fighting for his country. As the book drew to it's conclusion, it picked up pace again, well almost. I've listened to 4 of The Orphan X series & based on those I purchased another book by this author, which did nothing for me, in fact, I had to force myself to listen, so I returned it. I think it's fair to say this author isn't on my list of favourites & after 2 stand alone books that were mediocre in comparison to the Orphan X series, I don't think I'll be getting into the ring with this guy again, unless it's to complete the series of Orphan books, which are really good.

Zzzzzz 😴

This is an amazing audiobook.

The story is excellent. Absolutely gripping from the get go.

The narration is superb; one of the best I've heard.

There was one little bit of "oh must we get into THAT cliche territory" that did make me groan but that's a personal bug bear and didn't detract from the overall too much.

Listen to the sample, and if you're not hooked you've not lost much. But it really is an excellent story with a main character that defies odds, shows unknown strength without being an invulnerable super-hero. Would like to be him. Wouldn't like to be him.

Go get it.
