Story
Rookie Cop Dave Stewart knew that William Bailey was guilty of murder. All he had to do to convict him was change one line in his statement. Detective Chief Superintendent John McCauley loves dirt. He collects it in secret files to use against his enemies, and since Stewart slept with the beautiful Detective Sergeant Anne Wallace, he is the enemy. Stewart hatches a plan to destroy the evidence against him, but inside McCauley's files is evidence of a vile paedophile ring operating under the Chief's nose. Now three people are dead, and Dave Stewart is the prime suspect.

A really good plot
I really enjoyed most of this book it was just the rather graphic explanations of truly gruesome torture that got to me. The plot was excellent and an interesting take on the way someone who knows they have little time left deals with some of the violence sent his way. A good listen if you are not squeamish. Interesting characters and fairly well read.

I've been listening to the authors books and Orphan X is 5 times as good. Everybody seems to have a horrible nasal voice and the narrater makes the main character the most boring guy I've ever heard of!! Big shame after the last two I've listened to.

Dark Story
I usually fly through Greg Hurwitz's novels. But this one - just really really dark and I'd have to say way too dark for me.... The lead character is a vet with a terminal diagnosis of ALS, and he sees his dead best friend/fellow soldier in disturbing visions. While the story was interesting and the lead character sympathetic, I found the story mentally difficult to read ... As is the author's way, the story is filled with thrills and chills and horrific bad guys, but I found myself picking up and putting down the story several times before finally finishing it. I guess I wasn't in the mood for a dark and depressing storyline - so I had to give it 3 stars because I literally forced myself to finish the book... That said, I will still wait feverishly for all new books by this author - I'm a huge fan, but this one just didn't work for me.
Jeff Harding was good with the delivery of the story

I listened to it twice in two weeks
Where does The Survivor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I enjoyed it as much as the far fetched but action packed Matthew Reilly books most of which I own.
What did you like best about this story?
The plot was complicated and the characters believable.
Which scene was your favorite?
The beginning in the bank
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nope
Any additional comments?
The narrator did a great job of differenciating between the characters. I was never at a loss as to who was who.

Not what I expected
Warning: this book begins with a suicide attempt that is dramatized, discussed and supported by coherent logic.
Once you get past that... it’s a fair amount of action, a solid thriller style plot snd some interesting twists. Like many thrillers there are some overdone dramas, but overall it’s pretty good.
I would recommend to anyone not sensitive to the suicide issues.
