Summary
A major motion picture starring Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman, James Cromwell, Alan Bates and Michael Byrne!
Peace may finally be at hand in the Middle East - as Deputy Director of the CIA Jack Ryan lays the groundwork for a peace plan that could end centuries of conflict. But ruthless terrorists have a final, desperate card to play: They have their hands on a nuclear weapon and have placed it on American soil in the midst of an escalation in tension with the Soviet Union. The terrorists hope to rekindle cold war animosity and prevent reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. With one terrible act, distrust mounts, forces collide, and the floundering U.S. president seems unable to cope with the crisis. With the world on the verge of nuclear disaster, Ryan must frantically seek a solution - before the chiefs of state lose control of themselves and the world.

So plausible
I liked the plausibility of the story. The human weakness and vulnerability, the fear and hatred, the political nuances. All there. Well worth the read.

A Favourite
This is one of my favourite books from the Ryan universe, Jack gets sucked in to the life of CIA and loses focus on what's important. But he manages to pull it out of the bag and come back stronger than ever.
My only criticism of the audio of this book is that the narrators voice takes some getting used to and he isn't always distinct in his change of character voices. He also sounds a LOT like Stephen Hawkings robot voice which is rather off putting at first.
Still wish you would find a good American voice actor to redo the whole series with continuity of voices for each character. They also need to work on their pronunciation of words, submariner is just one example.

Just great!
I’ve only recently got into the Jack Ryan series of audio books. I’ve read them in order and prior to listening to this book I read reviews that stated that the extensive use of different characters and their actions was confusing and frustrating. This was not so in my case. I found the reading to be emotional, tense and completely spellbinding at times. Well done to all concerned. I heartily enjoyed The Sum Of All Fears!

Fantastic and much better than it initially sounds
Initially you might think the story is being read by a synthesised or computerised voice. However John MacDonald's tone settles you onto the story and grips you. John's accent for both Russian and German parts is impressive and captivating. I will most definitely be buying another audio book read by John.

Great story line
I read the original book when it first was published and am now working my way through the series as audiobooks to refresh what happened to who and where.
This book was yet another great story and it's interesting to read the plots now that technology has moved forward some what.
However it was a bit long winded in places and I struggled slightly with the scene changeover from one part of the story to the next as the narrator didn't pause long enough and sometimes it was quite confusing however I did enjoy it overall and would recommend it to others

Fantastic book and well read.
Yet another Clancy piece or perfection. The Ben Afleck movie doesn't do it any justice.

Jack is older & a little stressed but still great!
Classic Jack Ryan. He's older, a little stressed and worn but on his a game as usual. Great story and detailed research by Clancy makes for a great listen. Working my way through the books and this is one of my favourites
