Summary
When career criminal Terry Greene is sentenced to life for a murder he didn't commit, his wife has two choices: to walk away from the criminal empire he'd built up, or to take it over - to become as big a gangster as her husband.
So far as Samantha "Sam" Greene is concerned, there is no choice. All the family's assets are tied up in the business, and the family means more to her than anything else. But being a gangland boss doesn't come easily to Sam - other criminals are trying to take over her husband's empire and she's not sure which of his friends she can trust.
As she is drawn into a world of drug-dealing and counterfeit money, she realises for the first time the extent of her husband's activities. And she has two questions to answer - can she get her husband out of prison? And should she?

Great twist for the end.
As a devotee of other narrators of Stephen's books, I read this with some scepticism but should not have worried. The story is from a feminine perspective so made sense to have a woman's voice. Good pace story, moves along well (as one would expect) and a great end. I love his books and was not disappointed!

Accents...... Oh dear
Typical Stephen Leather, engaging plot, great story. I am however somewhat surprised that the producer didn't say "nice reading voice but drop the accents" her Glaswegian, Irish, Kosovan, West Indian and even south London were dreadful to point of being laughable.

Great story
This was a great story which kept me on tenterhooks all the way through. I was hardly able to put my phone away. That said I was disappointed with the narrator. The main character was portrayed perfectly, most of the lead characters were cool too. However where accents were used the narrator failed badly and I'm surprised they were passed. Great book that needs to be redone!!

Dubious accents
I very much enjoyed the story as I have done with many of Stephen Leathers books but unfortunately the narrator couldn’t do it justice.
Some of the accents were almost comical

One of his best!
Female voice narrating the story added extra depth to Sam the central character. Engrossing and engaging, without ever being entirely sure where the plot was leading. That's one of the best features of this book. Intriguing story, with the usual depth of sub-plots to challenge the intellect.
Having read many of his books now, I am constantly amazed by the diversity of plots and situations. Usually a strong central character, but any good story needs that. It's the weaving of the damaged souls into the plot around the central core that is masterful
You will enjoy this!
