Summary

He meets women. He gains their trust. He kills them. That’s all Maeve Kerrigan knows about the man she is hunting.

Three women have been strangled in their homes by the same sadistic killer. With no sign of a break-in, every indication shows that they let him in. But the evidence is pointing at a shocking suspect : DI Josh Derwent, Maeve’s colleague.

Maeve refuses to believe he could be involved, but how well does she really know him? Because this isn’t the first time Derwent’s been accused of murder…

Another excellent Maeve Kerrigan

I have enjoyed all of Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan series but feel that this is definitely her most accomplished yet. The plot is much tighter and relies less on cliches than some of her previous novels. Caroline Lennon narrates excellently as usual and I found it to be compulsive listening.

I love this series

If you could sum up The Stranger You Know in three words, what would they be?

Tremendous writing. Compelling.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I laughed out loud when Maeve asked a 'posh' woman "Did she have a regional accent? No, she was normal"!

Any additional comments?

The series of novels featuring DC Maeve Kerrigan is just fantastic. It goes the extra mile to many crime novels in creating great richness and depth to the characters. This, like the others has some gruesome descriptions, but also beautifully written friendship, love and rivalries. I worried for the characters, I feared some and I often laughed. All human life is here.

ANOTHER EXCELLENT AND GRIPPING WELL THOUGHT OUT THRILLER

So much better than most of the other thrillers out there, fab narration and a story with more twists and turns than a game of snakes and ladders. Cannot wait to start the next one in the series though each is a stand alone.

The Fourth Book in the series.

The further adventures of DC Maeve Kerrigan are a rivetting read in this fourth book in the series. In The Stranger You Know Maeve finds herself on a team investigating a series of gruesome murders without her normal partner, DI Josh Derwent. What does a twenty year old case have to do with the recent murders and why is Josh off the case?

I found this book moved along at a fast pace as Maeve tell her story. A good read.

Love this series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely but only in order as all the Maeve Kerrigan books are well worth listening to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maeve herself, she is so real, not perfect but no glaring deficiencies either.

What about Caroline Lennon’s performance did you like?

Just love her accent and the characterisation she manages to convey so well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I certainly could have if time allowed, didn't take long anyway.

Any additional comments?

Have just downloaded Maeve book 5 so can't stop, I have a book to listen to!

The best so far

Complex and complicated. Full of red herrings, even though you’re sure you know who the culprit is...
I miss Mr Thornley (joint narrator in the first 2 - I love his voice), but Ms Lennon is not bad, although I wonder why she’s dropped the slight Irish lilt for Maeve that she adopted in the first novel.

This is an unputdownable story. You just Have to see where it’s going to go. Fast paced at one minute, slow and almost tedious at the next. DI Burns is irritating and I wish that there was a satisfactory resolution with them all. Maybe in the next instalment...
