Summary

Biblical Christianity is more than just another private religious view. It's more than just a personal relationship with God or a source of moral teaching.

Christianity is a picture of reality.

It explains why the world is the way it is. When the pieces of this puzzle are properly assembled, we see the big picture clearly. Christianity is a true story of how the world began, why the world is the way it is, what role humans play in the drama, and how all the plotlines of the story are resolved in the end.

In The Story of Reality, best-selling author and host of Stand to Reason Gregory Koukl explains the five words that form the narrative backbone of the Christian story. He identifies the most important things that happen in the story in the order they take place:

  • God
  • Man
  • Jesus
  • Cross
  • Resurrection

Our story begins with God. He created everything, but something went terribly wrong. So God initiated a rescue plan and entered the world that he had made by becoming like us in Jesus Christ. Jesus saved us from the wrongness in ourselves and in the world through his death on a cross. And how people respond to what he did will determine their future, at the final event of history: the resurrection.

If you are already a Christian, this is your story. Do you know it? If you are not a Christian, this is still your story, because it explains the world in a way that nothing else will. It is a true story - the real story behind every other story we hear.

Every Christian Needs This Book

For so many believers the Bible is a series of short encouraging sayings that bring comfort and encouragement. Of course there is Jesus and His return, but we tedn to run out of steam after that. In The Story of Reality, Gregory Koukl lays out the big story and once we have that in place it is much easier to determine what does and doesn't fit.

New believer? This book will be a foundation for your faith and rocket fuel for your soul. If like me you have been round a bit longer, and I have been around a long time and am more well read than most, this book is still a breath of fresh air, delivering logic, context and and a beautiful depiction of the scriptural meta-narrative - he paints a wonderful picture of God, His story and our part in it.

Enjoy!

An Apologetic Primer on the Christian Faith

With a careful blend of Biblical Theology and Systematic Theology, Koukl presents the story of the Christian faith with its truths in a persuasive fashion in his own masterful, conversational style. All this makes this book a delightful listen!

Every Christian should have this in their Library.

This was a fantastic book and Greg did a great job of reading it. I think every Christian should have a couple of these books on hand, because it would be a great book to give away to someone that you are sharing the gospel with. I appreciate the fact that this book will be accessible to intellectuals and the laymen alike. it's an awesome book.... Read it or listen to it.

Great Book, Bad Editing

If you could sum up The Story of Reality in three words, what would they be?

Very Important Message

What three words best describe Gregory Koukl’s performance?

Very good reading but whoever edited it made lots of errors.

Any additional comments?

In all the audiobooks I have listened to I have never heard so many editing errors. You can tell on multiple occasions where the reader started over because he made a mistake and the person editing it didn't get it pasted back together right.

Concrete Clear and Concise

Fantastic book, concrete clear and concise explanation of the Christian Worldview. I would recommend this to all who claim to be a follower of Christ and to the skeptic although it does not go deep into the evidence, it gives good reasons to believe.

A worthy modern successor to Mere Christianity.

Since Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis, I have not encountered a work that so cogently and clearly lays out the evidence for Christianity, as well as addressing important questions that skeptics also ask. If that wasn't enough though, Koukl has couched the entire presentation within the context and flow of the Bible's story arc to great effect. The story of reality stands as a terrific entry-level primer to Biblical and Christological theology which is thoroughly readable, reasonable and engaging. And the author's reading is terrific. He brings years and YEARS of professional speaking and radio experience to the task. Truly a pleasure at almost any playback speed.

Very well done. Concise and thoughtful.

My second time through. This time via audio versus print. Worth your time. Share with those you love. Our world needs truth. Truth is a person and his name is Jesus.

A must read for everyone!!

I can't say enough good things about this book. Simply put, this is the best book I've ever read (listened to) that clearly and concisely articulates the Christian worldview. The book is not just for Christians though, it's for everyone who has a pulse and recognizes/cares about the reality of eternity. For the Christian it will edify, encourage, embolden, and excite you in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For the non-believers, it will challenge you to carefully consider the arguments put forth for examination and will clearly articulate our human need for God, why we need Him, the problem of sin, the existence of evil in relation to a loving God, justice, injustice, eternity, Heaven, Hell, and so much more. But be warned, if you're not a follower of Christ then this book will leave you with a pebble in your shoe! You may walk away from this book unconvinced by what the author puts forward but like an annoying/irritable pebble in your shoe, you won't be able to ignore it completely until you remove the pebble. But good luck removing the pebble on your own!! So take a chance and read (listen) to this book, you won't be disappointed!
