Summary

The truth isn’t what it seems in this stirring novel of suspense.

After presenting a major scientific breakthrough to a rapt audience across the country, renowned astronomer Sarah Mayfield returns home to a disturbing discovery. Her husband, Ben, a Los Angeles restaurateur, has disappeared, leaving behind an unexplained bank deposit of a million dollars, a loaded Glock in the nightstand, and a video security system that’s been wiped clean. The only answers their son, Zack, can offer are the last words his father said to him: keep the doors locked and set the alarm.

Sarah’s marriage was more troubled than anyone suspected, but now she is afraid that her husband’s recent past could be darker than she dares to admit. Suspecting that nothing about Ben’s vanishing is what it seems, Sarah must delve into the space between old memories, newfound fears, and misleading clues to piece together the mystery of her husband’s disappearance - and find what she hopes in her heart is the truth.

One of the best books ever!

This was my first Dete Meserve's book and won't be the last. This romantic suspense. so well written, has it all: captivating, mesmerizing, thrilling, intriguing, suspenseful, heartbreaking, page-turner, fast-paced, with twists and turns and even more. The world building is really great. All the characters are well described. I loved the story of Sarah, a renowned astronomer, and her husband Ben, a Los Angeles restaurateur. The astronomy and technology details are very interesting. The plot is extremely well built and so well written. And THE ending!! Sometimes, you've got a gem and you're so grateful someone told you to listen to it. And I'll listen to it again. You absolutely have to listen to this incredible and wonderful story. Laurel Schroeder has done a stellar and breathtaking interpretation with all the characters. She's one of my favorite narrators and this story just confirm her place with the best narrators. This was my first listen to Thimothy Andrés Pabon. I absolutely love his voice! He has a warm and sexy voice, a delight to listen. Now, I'm looking forward for my books written by this author and read by these narrators. Thanks a lot to the author and narrators for this wonderful story. I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed my listening and I TOTALLY recommend this audiobook.

Great Story, Great Narration!

I was first attracted to this book by the narrator Laurel Schroeder. Then I was pulled in by the blurb. What an outstanding book this is. I absolutely loved the story and the narration. The book is a combination of romance, mystery, and suspense, which happen to be my favorite genres. I loved the imagery in the book and all of the astronomy references. The story has some twists that I never saw coming. I had several conspiracy theories listening to this book only to be proven wrong. I love that when that happens in a book. The author Dete Meserve is a new author to me, but one I will definitely listen to again. Timothy Andres Pabon is a new narrator. He did a very good performance with the POV chapters he did from Ben's perspective. Laurel Schroeder continues to amaze me with her distinguishable character voices. I love how talented she is. I will definitely listen to this book again. I loved it!

The Space Between

This story is full of twists and turns, you are never quite sure who to trust or believe until near the end. It is a fantastic suspense book. It is also about realizing what you have, when faced with the worst case scenario just when you think things have hit rock bottom. The longer you listen the more you are drawn in. Laurel Schroeder & Timothy Andrés Pabon do a fantastic job bringing the book to life.

OMG! My ears are bleeding.

The narration of this story was so painful to listen to I couldn't concentrate on the story. Knew who the bad guy was in first third of the story but couldn't stop. Thought it would get better, it didn't.

good book!

I really liked this book. the narrator not so much. she had a rigid feeling to her. It felt like she bit off her words and not a lot of emotional depth to her voice.

Thrilling mystery!

When I saw that Laurel Schroeder was one of the narrators for this book, I had to get it and I am so glad that I did. Dete Meserve has woven a story of thrilling, romantic suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Sarah Mayfield comes home from a work trip to find her husband, Ben missing. Things between them have not been the greatest, so communication has been sparse. Now, tracking his last several days leaves Sarah with more questions and no answers. Finding clues, missing information and trying to stay safe, Sarah seeks to find the truth and Ben. Meserve had me hooked through this whole story. I was intrigued with the astronomy, the technological aspects and the journey of Sarah finding her way back to Ben. Each twish and turn left me wondering how this was happening, who was behind it and why. The perfect mix of an old fashioned whodunnit with today's knowledge.

Laurel Schroeder nails this performance with Sarah's POV. She is full of strength while feeling vulnerable, and gives the performance that edge of mystery throughout. This is my first listen of Timothy Andres Pabon and he is wonderful with Ben's POV. He gives Ben the determination and fortitude to keep going. This is an amazing listen.

I hope to NEVER hear this narrator again

I liked the book very much, BUT, the narrator is really really bad. I couldn't enjoy the book because every phrase was so drawn out at the end, it made my hair stand on end. This is not just my opinion, as I had a lot of ppl give me their opinion too, just to be certain I was not being picky.
Trust me.. get rid of this Narrator. PLEASE

Story good, performance not so good

Due to the performance it was a challenge to get through the story. The female voice ended every word with a emphasis on the last letter. Words ending in “T” and “S” were sharp and lingered on unnecessarily. It was hard to listen to; however the story was entertaining.

Narrator is horrible

While the story is not bad in and of itself the narrator is really bad!! The whole story is told in 3-4 word sentences whether there is a period or comma or not. I’d rather it of been read in one long sentence than as it is. I will avoid this narrator in the future. She really ruined a fairly decent book!
