Summary

There are no fish, in the future. We killed them. But it's not just the ghosts of the shoals making artist Cally Dune unhappy. Her husband has gone. Vanished, after being called up for the President's new "Training Scheme".

"Nobody ever comes back the same." Worried whispers drift through the pubs, gathering like rainclouds to drip their paranoia into Cally's mind, which is already marinaded in grief for Simon and fear about being called to Training herself.

Letting the wine flow into the places where it hurts, Cally stumbles into the arms of a clammy banker and unwittingly discovers a disturbing and painful secret. She is propelled on a journey through the dust of Africa and the hidden tunnels deep below London, unraveling the fading scrolls of the ancient Egyptians and illuminating their lurid hieroglyphics.

And ultimately towards a heartbreaking choice...to save her marriage or save her soul.

Because now there's something else at stake.

They are coming for it. And it's inside her.

A dystopian account of our great nation being marched into docile submission at the hands of a corrupt leader.

The Sound of your Soul is like an Orwellian Dystopian soundscape, painted in oil and brought to life through the detailed garnishes of a brilliant female mind.

As we settle into the thoughts of Cally, our protagonist, we soon realise her world is balanced on the peak of 2 very different worlds. One small nudge in the direction of weakness or resolve, could take us spinning off into a world of social control, stripped of our identities, or on the pursuit of truth and freedom.

We very quickly find ourselves tumbling down the rabbit hole, climbing deeper through the layers of misappropriated power and corruption. The more the layers are peeled back in the pursuit of truth, the more we reveal the dark under belly of a government left to reign unchallenged for too long.

This book is for the thinking readers out there, who love a dark world to escape into and who also enjoy a good conspiracy. Definitely one to revisit again in a few months time.

Beautifully written!

The Sound of Your Soul is brilliantly composed and an emotionally charged dystopian romance. This was my first book by Anna Cookson, and I'm impressed by her beautifully written words and her captivating characters. The plot is well-developed with a smooth flow and vivid imagery, I was thoroughly enthralled. Lillian Rachel captured the narrative and the characters with her performance.

The Sound of Your Soul is a fascinating tale with quality plot and characters. I highly recommend this audiobook! I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
