Summary

I won my first fight when I was 11 years old, and I've been throwing punches ever since. Fighting is the purest, truest, most elemental thing there is. Some people describe heaven as a sea of unending white, where choirs sing and loved ones await. But for me, heaven was something else. It sounded like the bell at the beginning of a round, and it tasted like adrenaline. For me, heaven was the octagon.

Until I met Millie, and heaven became something different. I became something different. I knew I loved her when I watched her stand perfectly still in the middle of a crowded room, people swarming, buzzing, slipping around her. No one seemed to see her at all except for the few who squeezed past her, tossing exasperated looks at her unsmiling face. When they realized she wasn't normal, they hurried away. Why was it that no one saw her, yet she was the first thing I saw?

If heaven was the octagon, then she was my angel at the center of it all, the girl with the power to take me down and lift me up again. The girl I wanted to fight for, the girl I wanted to claim. The girl who taught me that sometimes the biggest heroes go unsung, and the most important battles are the ones we don't think we can win.

10 STARS MUST READ LISTEN

Not overpowering on the fight scenarios, which for me was good - I don't really want to know the intricate details of fight manoeuvres, but still gave me a good feel for the MMA background.
I love how Amy writes, they way she develops characters and feelings is incredible. I really respect how she broaches love stories that encompass disability be it physical, mental or psychological and still makes the characters strong.
For me this book was more about the love of two unlikely friends than that between man and woman, although this was integral to the story.
I cannot truely convey in words how profound the two books in this story affected me, but they have. I did prefer the Law of Moses story, but I think that was perhaps because I could relate to the characters more readily.
The plot was tight although intricate and I can usually find a flaw in most books. An extremely well executed story and narrated beautifully.

Compelling

I only started this series, because I love the narration of Zachary Webber and didn’t feel like I could just jump into the second book. I usually stick to more lighthearted books, but I just couldn’t stop listening. The characters are so well written; both flawed/held back by their fears but so strong and kind you just have to root for them 200%. I love that the Moses is still narrating and the friendship between the two main men is still such an important part of the book. The love story between Tag and Amelie is so beautiful. She is such an amazing, well balanced character. Well written, well narrated. Thank you!

Another incredible story

I was just completely blown away by this story, so incredibly powerful and emotional. The narrators were superb, bringing the characters to life, so much so that several times, I was so tearful, I had to stop listening for a little while. One of those stories that you just don’t want to finish, yet desperately need to know what happens. Thank you
