Summary
Bloomsbury presents The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, read by Frazer Douglas.
The international sensation.
Winner of the Orange Women's Prize for Fiction.
A Sunday Times and New York Times best seller.
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son, Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles' mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfil his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

All that was promised
Wonderful! Cried three times! Loved it! Performance made enough difference between characters that it was clear who was speaking but wasn't annoying. It doesn't matter if you know the story of Achilles and Petroclus before hand, it might even make it better. For me it did. All the foreshadowing feels more poignant.

Superb Audible Experience
Not my usual genre, although I did love Greek mythology as a youngster. I heard two woman discussing the novel in a charity bookshop and then found it on Audible. Straight to the top of my ‘listen file’ and raced through it. Frazer Douglas’ narration is superb; subtle changes in tone denote different characters speaking. The book itself is an absolute joy; the heroic Achilles lovingly rendered through the first person narration of Patroclus. This is a love story for the ages. Wonderful book, beautifully narrated and it has reawakened my love of Greek mythology. 5 stars all round.

I’m so distressed.
What am I to do now? This was so beautifully written. Makes sense why it took 10 years! I’ve just finished it and I want to start re-reading. I was so hesistant going into this because I saw it on tik tok, but it’s so worth the hype. Also the narrator was incredible!!!

Gorgeous
Well-narrated, beautiful story. I personally found the voice of Thetis a little jarring but it did not spoil the overall quality of this richly written homage.

Beautiful love story
Such a beautiful interpretation of the story of Achilles and Patroclus. Love story at the forefront and the battle of Troy as the back drop
