December 1940. New Year’s Eve draws closer, but crowds will not be gathering on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate. After a quiet Christmas, the area has suffered London’s most devastating air raid since the start of the Blitz and waves of incendiary bombs have burnt the heart of British book publishing to the ground.

Detective Inspector John Jago finds a desolate woman sitting among the ruins of her family business and must break the news – her husband’s been found shot dead at their home in Soho. An antiquarian bookseller, he’d just acquired a mysterious volume which is priceless – and missing. Did someone covet it enough to kill for it?

Obsessive collectors and unscrupulous dealers haunt Jago’s descent into Soho’s underworld, where he finds criminals are branching out in the shadows of the blackout.©2024 Mike Hollow 20th Century Crime Fiction Historical Historical Fiction Mystery Thriller & Suspense Noel

Was delighted to read the next installment of this series and enjoyed as the others in series. The two main characters Jago and Cradock warmly familiar. The twists and turns as ever akin to a modern day Midsomer or Morse. I do hope there will be more from this brilliant Author. And can we hope that Inspector Jago will have a Happy Ever after with his American Beau Dorothy!!

London History WW2 brought to Life!

I have the entire cannon of these books. This is the most recent fro 2025 (I'm writing this 2026). I do hope another is due out soon. This, as with all, has a great nub of a tale. But also covers historical things going on in 1940. The main character was in WW1 and is quite retrospective of that war and wars futility. I had it's lighter moments. His sidekick DC is a simple chap, and always hungry! Well worth a credit.

Good Story Well Narrated

A lovely story, well read. As with the other books in the series, I loved it

A linked series of stories about ordinary folk trying to survive.

While slow in places, and periods of European history which rather detailed facts, it was enjoyable. would have benefited from more background development for the two detectives.

As ever in the series a going combination of story and history
