Summary
Fans have described the trilogy as Game of Thrones meets The Three Musketeers.
When Soren is plucked from the streets and given a place at the prestigious academy of swordsmanship, he thinks his dream of being a great swordsman has become a possibility. However, with great intrigues unfolding all around him, Soren discovers that he is little more than a pawn to the ambitions of others.
As he is swept from high society into exile in foreign lands to escape those who see him as a threat, he must rely on a mysterious gift and the lessons learned at the academy if he hopes to survive in a society where disputes are settled with a sword.

pretty fantastic
it's pretty grand. First 2 books are near perfect and the last was pretty good too. If you're looking for swashbuckling adventure this is great.

Hooked from the start!
I loved this book so much and was devastated when it finished!
The story is brilliant, with sword fighting, magic, court intrigue and adventure throughout, with enough misfortune and bad luck falling onto the main character to keep you on the edge of your seat and interested throughout!!
I’ve not listened to Derek before, but he’s a fantastic narrator, really portraying the characters well with clearly defined personas and voices and I’m already looking for more of his work!!
I need more of this and I’ll definitely be re-listening to this again!
And the best part... it’s a whole Trilogy for one credit!! Best value credit I’ve spent all year!

The swashbuckling matrix
Book one and two had me biting my nails, i was constantly trying to guess the plots and predict what roads the characters would take, book three almost lost me, too many new characters to follow, had I time to work up hatred for the new people we met I may ave followed a bit better but to me they didn’t feel necessary in the storyline, or hadn’t had enough time to get to know them, a book 4 would have given plenty time to want them dead and not just listen to them slain by our hero

Great Story
Loved book 1 and the character/world development. The end seemed a little rushed when it didn't have to be. I'd love to see this made in to a movie aimed at adults.

what an adventure!
The character development and sense of adventure in this trilogy is up there with the very best. It's fast paced yet still surprising how so much scope is squeezed in to three books. Following the lead character from the gutter, to high society. Through war, espionage, exile, world travel, naval battles, this list goes on and on. my only criticism is that the ending seemed a little rushed and left so many loose ends. hopefully this is to allow for a follow up book or three!

Enjoyable
Very well read, good pace and clear.
I found the story enjoyable but not breathtaking. it was predictable at almost every point and the explanation of the use of magic was lacking. The characters are well developed though, and the narrator captures their individuality well.
Lots of repetition but that's to be expected when listening to a complete trilogy as one book.

Very Enjoyable
If you could sum up The Society of the Sword Trilogy in three words, what would they be?
Entertaining, Easy, Engaging.
What other book might you compare The Society of the Sword Trilogy to, and why?
It had the same feel to it as "The name of the wind" by Patrick Rothfuss and bit like "The Lies of Locke Lamora" by Scott Lynch.
I love following one central character through a classic adventure tale.
What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?
Derek Perkins has a very smooth, yet engaging narration. I feel he could maybe vary the characters voices a little more, but he is still one of the best.
Any additional comments?
I will give some of the other books by Hamilton a try but I'm a bit disappointed that they do not appear to be narrated by Derek Perkins.
