Summary

Paranormal women's fiction and romance from NYT and USA Today best-selling author Michelle M. Pillow.

You can always go home...but sometimes home won’t let you leave.

At 40, Kari Grove knows she should be over her strict childhood. The grandparents who raised her had never been loving people. But some feelings are buried deep and contain more dark secrets than even she realizes.

Even after death, it would appear her grandmother isn’t done controlling her life (and that’s putting it mildly).

With the help of new friends and a love interest her grandparents would have hated, Kari must finally learn to stand up for herself and unravel the tragic mystery of her past.

Heather, Vivien, Lorna, and Sue are back! With the help of Grandma Julia's ghost, they're kicking supernatural butt and taking names.

Good story with a great resolution

Book five in the Order of Magic series chronicling the paranormal lives of the ladies of Freewild Cove,

Lorna, Heather, Vivien and Sue continue to hone their psychic skills in contacting and dispatching spirits. As ever, the spirit of Julia Warwick, Grandma to Heather, is there to direct, chastise and assist.

The arrival of Kari Grove in Freewild Cove sends up paranormal red flags to Heather, Vivien, Lorna and Sue.
When they investigate a complex web is revealed and gradually unravelled.

Kari was raised by her wealthy, chilly grandparents following the death of her parents on her day of birth.
She is called to Freewild Cove to tend to her grandmother as her health declines.

Her death leaves Kari seemingly tied to a ramshackle, haunted house and vulnerable to a malicious spirit.

Her grandmother’s history of dark magic, manipulation and sheer selfishness is astounding.

Good story with a great resolution.

Excellent narration.

Magic and Romance - Good Combination

A lovely escapism and I so want to move and live in Freewild Cove where you can find magic and love within a very short time! A perfect combination of magic and romance with a short and sweet sex scene, lots of romance and sweetness.
Listened in a day so easy reading, but very enjoyable and nice read.
My first introduction to this series was previous book 4 The Fifth Sense and enjoyed it more as Sue's story connected with me more, Kari's story is a bit more extreme, sensational and detracted a little for me as a bit of a long winded story which is shame as nice ending. Loved beginning, few tears towards end, but middle just lost me, my interest waned and yet enjoyed.
Had the joy of listening to this through Audible and really enjoyed the narration of Rebecca Cook.
Even though did not read first few novels in this series, it did not detract as was able to enter the world and meet the characters with no preconceived idea of the lovely ladies of Freewild Cove. Short read and would be nice to reconnect more with the ladies from previous books and have bit more depth, but a short enjoyable story.

Magic in the air

This was such a great book to listen to but I have to say a lot of that is due to the person reading it, she is fabulous. The chapters are not too long and there is so much to keep you gripped. To maintain all the character voices so you know exactly who was speaking all the time, just great.
Kari has been a disappointment to her grandmother ever since she was born. At least to hear Connie tell it, what you don't know is that Connie is a complete cowbag and has no feelings for anyone other than herself. The fact that Kari is even remotely caring, empathetic and not bitter is proof of her huge heart. It is only on Connie's death that she actually starts to learn about herself, her mother (who died when she was born) and the things that happened in the house that has now been handed to Kari. There is more there than meets the eye or than is contained in the will.... And then there is a ring and Angel. Wonderful!

The Sisterhood Rocks

The Order of Magic books just keep getting better and better. This is an emotional and engaging read with wonderful characters and fantastic narration from Rebecca Cook.

Connie is such a nasty character in both life and death and I loved how Kari and the ladies fight the evil lady together and come out the winners! There’s humour, drama, friendship, romance and a well deserved happy ending! A must read.

Another Hit

I love stories that take me on a rollercoaster ride, and this one sure does that.
Laughs, tears, and suspense.
I love this series. The next one better come out soon, or I might forget to check for it. I'd regret that.

Audio Lives up to the original book

I don't generally write reviews for the audio books I listen to. This is well worth the exception. It is very well done and the voice is very close to what I imagined when I read the original book. Great book and audiobook.

What a fun ride!

The girls are back with yet another adventure. I did tend to get a bit confused on who was who, but that’s just from reading so fast I didn’t remember who did what! I love the family these women create and the bonds they share. This story will frustrate and enrage sometimes but it’s the deviousness of the characters that have been brought to life. All in all, I loved it and can’t wait for the next one.

Tense and Exciting . . .

This is a book that highlights and showcases the power of friendships to get us all through life. Kari Grove had a terrible experience when she was raised by her unbelievably cruel grandma. “Strict” is not the worst of it. When the woman died, some truths are revealed about the family. Her friends are the ones who help her hold it together and enable her to grow into her powers, her new environment of friends, and a special guy. There is much going on, and much to go through, but it will get better as it moves forward. Will the strength she gets from her own growth and the support of friends give her what she needs to finally stand up for herself and face her terrifying past?

I can always count on this author to write superb stories. Believe me, you won’t snooze off in the middle of one of hers! Let the tension pull you in and enjoy a story told well! The narrator for the audiobook version is Rebecca Cook. She does a great job with the voices to make it easy for the listener to get an accurate idea of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood and is a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

I Enjoyed It

I have enjoyed listening to all the books in this series and would recommend that you listen to the books in the order they are written to get the most from them. This is the fifth book in the Order of Magic series, and this time it's the turn of Kari to have her story told.

Kari's come to visit her grandmother after learning that her grandmother has moved, they are not close, her grandmother has always been distant and has belittled Kari her whole life, but she is her grandmother and probably out of duty, it's not made clear by the author why she felt she should visit.

When Kari visits her grandmother she starts to learn more about her family's history which isn't all good, but maybe her's is worse than most as her grandmother is responsible for several deaths. She meets the characters we've come to know from the earlier books and feels an instant connection with them and working together they are able to prevent her grandmother's evil plan. She also meets Angel the romantic aspect of the story, but like in the earlier books, the romance aspect is too quick for my liking, although the story isn't a romance, it's more about Kari learning about her past and being able to move forward.

The narration of the book is by Rebecca Cook, who has done a very good just with all the books in this series.

If Connie is what family is...

Karrie has had 40 years to wish she knew her parents, to pray for happiness, and realize that having Connie as her only living family member is its own form of torture, but it turns out there is something even worse than Connie in a mood, and Karrie is about to face it.

What I love most about this series is the community, chosen family, oh-so-real moments, and humor. The worse things get, the luckier Karrie realizes she is to have ended up in the fellowship of Julia's rings.

Loving this book

Carrie is berated by her grandmother everyday since she's been born. Her parents are dead and her grandmother made sure Carrie knew of her displeasure of her. When her grandmother passed away, strange things started to happen. She finds a ring and new friends to help her solve the mystery of her new powers. Along the way she finds out she has a daughter she never knew about and meet Angel, a man that stands by her no matter how crazy her life gets. She and her friends fights against the evil spirit that tries to transplant its soul into Carrie's daughter, Constance. With her new found family in tow, she meets her father she thought was dead and have everything she ever wanted growing up, a happy loving family.
Really good story. Loved the narrator. I liked that Carrie is a strong intelligent woman along with her friends, that solves their problems without a man doing it for them, but the men in their lives are very supportive instead.

I'm loving this series!

I really like that the women I'm this series are seasoned and still living and enjoying life all while experiencing something so far from what they believed to be true and sharing a bond with other strong women. In this book, I struggled a little with the constant fear expressed by Kari, but it has a purpose and she has some growth as the story progresses. Great characters and story line. The narrator was perfect.

Wow, very disappointed

I enjoyed the first 4 books, the 1st one was the best, which happens often.

I finally had to turn up the speed to 1.5 to finish this one, Was hard to keep track who was speaking. The magic theme is fantasy, but this one was way over the top, and just silly at times.

Book 4 was great, as well as 1 and 2. I like Heather, but her book was kind of boring. I like the romance part, especially the fact that it is NOT porn. The couples get together, but no graphics sex scenes. That’s hard to find any more.

Rebecca Cook does a nice job of narrating
