Summary

I am a living ghost, a wanderer in search of my purpose and place.

I'm a cemetery restorer by trade, but my calling has evolved from that of ghost seer to death walker to detective of lost souls. I solve the riddles of the dead so the dead will leave me alone.

I've come to Seven Gates Cemetery nursing a broken heart, but peace is hard to come by, for the ghosts here and for me. When the body of a young woman is discovered in a caged grave, I know that I've been summoned for a reason. Only I can unmask her killer. I want to trust the detective assigned to the case, for he is a ghost seer like me. But how can I put my faith in anyone when supernatural forces are manipulating my every thought? When reality is ever-changing? And when the one person I thought I could trust above all others has turned into a diabolical stranger?

Very intense and super creepy!

The Sinner
Graveyard Queen Series, Book 5
By: Amanda Stevens
Narrated by: Khristine Hvam
Wow, this book has been the creepiest book yet! It gets a bit dark, twisted, and nail-biting! Tons of suspense! Amelia is doing an assignment and finds where people were murdered and buried alive! This is the cheery part of the story! From there it is gets so crazy but good and intense! This is the most intense one yet. I don't want to say to much and give anything away! Just listen to it!
The narration is excellent! She makes it even more intense with her performance!

Up next, Devlin's return...

This listen was similar to past stories, getting a little monotonous ... but Devlin returns in the next story and this is what I have been waiting for. I like this character and her stories just getting a bit too routine. Hvam is perfect for the Charleston atmosphere.

Sugar overload

Good lord, the “Southern drawl” is waaay over the top! Breathy, dramatized narration. The actual dialog is not as bad but when she “tells” the story my ears scream. Other characters, sheriff etc are the same, typical sounding morons. I’ve lived in the south for 60 yrs, this is NOT how everyone sounds. Sorry, it just ruined the book. May be a good book when read.

Best in the series

So far the best of the series. If you can overlook the abundance of “gazing” and “falling” in Stevens writing style, the stories are entertaining. There are interesting bits of history and mythology woven in with a delicate hand. BRAVO! Amelia’s growth in The Sinner is well done.

The Sinner is lighter on romance that the first novels in the series. Sexual content is adult, but not graphic or compromising.

The Sinner by Amanda Stevens

I love the characters, I never thought it was "Kendrick", I thought it was the young officer, and Amelia Gray, is great, I can't believe their is only one more book left. I'm glad I have your book on IPad and on Audible, This book makes me want to visit, South Carolina. I highly recommend this series, and will be listening over and over again. The

Creepy

This is not my usual paranormal reading. It is more of a ghost story and if it were a movie I would have watched part of it through my fingers, haha. I purchased this book on sale and it is the only book in the series that I have listened to. Admittedly, that is not the wisest on my part but I still enjoyed the book, the mystery, and who done it. Even though I liked this book and am glad that I listened, I doubt that I will listen to the other books iin the series.

Shivers

Any additional comments?

More a "head" book, not so blood and guts. The narration is just right, and is Ms Hvam's usual superb job. This book is sneaky. It lures you along until you are suddenly checking the locks and wanting a warmer sweater. The people are people, not characters. You feel embarrassed with them and frightened with them, and want to check on their safety. One fault is Amelia's "too stupid to live" behavior in some instances. This series hooked me. I want to know why Devlin is such an ass, what's up with the mother and aunt, why Amelia is always is left out in the cold, what is with the family history and "gifts". Oh this book, and the series, is a tease for the next bit of information about Amelia. All that is outside the current mystery or investigation going on in each book. I will be reading this series and checking on anything else the author writes.

Thrill Ride

In The Sinner by Amanda Steven's the character Amelia finally has embraced who she is. I adore whom Amelia has grown into, despite her being extremely fearful in the last book. In this book she plunges head long into another supernaturally touched mystery.
This book in total was a great listen and the author thrilled and chilled me, but at the same time left the scratching my head. The head scratching would reveal spoilers which I won't do. I felt the ending came out of left field.
For those who love Devlin, he is absent from this book. I know it was hard on this reader too, but the author left Amelia high and dry and nursing a broken heart. The book starts about a year after the Devlin dump. Which was the most unemotional break up in history. As a reader I know how much Amelia love's Devlin but no real emotional reactions. She is very controlled from living with all those years with the rules, but if I can read about her fears I would love to read about her emotional turmoil too.
Despite the ending, this was a solid continuation to the series, and I highly recommend the series and this book.
