About this listen

"I very much need to be dead."

These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for - but took his own life. In the aftermath, his widow, Jane Hawk, does what all her grief, fear, and fury demand: find the truth, no matter what.

People of talent and accomplishment, people admired and happy and sound of mind, have been committing suicide in surprising numbers. When Jane seeks to learn why, she becomes the most-wanted fugitive in America. Her powerful enemies are protecting a secret so important - so terrifying - that they will exterminate anyone in their way.

But all their power and viciousness may not be enough to stop a woman as clever as they are cold-blooded, as relentless as they are ruthless - and who is driven by a righteous rage they can never comprehend. Because it is born of love.

Having been a massive Koontz fan for years, I had been so disappointed with his last few novels that I had practically given up on him.
As this book had good reviews I decided to give it a go and I’m so glad I did! The book is fast paced with good characters and an almost (well, you never know) believable plot!
The narrator is ok but it did go to check my phone a few times because of the ridiculous long pauses between chapters but the story makes up for that!
Definitely worth it!!!!

Finally fantastic!

The recording of this audio book is quite poor, with noise distortion, which took me quite a while to ignore. It continued throughout the book, with some bits being loud, some bits quiet and a constant, irritating background sound all the time the narrator talks.

I also couldn’t get over the silly voices when the narrator changed it for characters. I’ve listened to many audio books and this one was not the best. The story overall was good, if you can ignore the bad recording and cringe-worthy voices!

Not a Great Recording!

Really disappointed in the flow of the story and how she made the discoveries along the way. Needed too big a leaps of faith as the story unravelled. Might give book 2 a chance but if that's the same I won't be reading the series

Disappointed in the quality of the story

This was pretty good at the start but slowly got more and more boring. I ended up speeding up the Audible reading to try and get to a good bit. it didn't work. The ending leaves you hanging as well.

Not great

I like the theme. I find some of the narrative tedious. Overall very good. Committed to the series.
