Summary

Detective Inspector Costello has resigned. No notice, no good-byes. Convinced that George Haggerty murdered his wife and son despite his cast-iron alibi, Costello has gone solo, determined to expose a ruthless killer without being hampered by police protocol. But is she right about Haggerty's guilt? And where has she disappeared to?

DCI Colin Anderson has no time to ponder the loss of his partner of 20 years. With a badly beaten body found on a remote mountain pass, a woman with a serious head wound who won't communicate in any way and a substantial pool of blood discovered at the edge of Loch Lomond, Police Scotland have their hands full. Could there be any connection to Costello's disappearance?

Great sequel

This carried on from the previous book and came to a satisfactory conclusion. As ever well written with Anderson eventually pursuing Haggerty. Costello is in trouble early on and doesn’t figure in person so much in this book but familiar characters still there.

Liked it mostly all though the performance could have more variation in tone and style.

So Good

I have just loved this series. After I had listened to "The Suffering of Strangers" I could not wait until the next one which is this. I bought extra credits because I could not wait until I got new credits next month.

James Macpherson was very good as narrator in the early ones but Cathleen McCarron is been very good.

Highly recommended

Good story with good plot apart from a few glaringly obvious things the police just seemed blind to. Anyone could have solved ea

Liked the setting and the team members, especially Anderson. Like that these stories are set in Scotland and like the scots way do describing things. Terrible narrator, much preferred the male narrator used in previous listens
