Summary

The Shadow Man is the first standalone from the bestselling author of the Perfect series, Helen Fields.

Includes a short story, exclusive to the audiobook.

He collects his victims. But he doesn’t keep them safe.

Elspeth, Meggy and Xavier are locked in a flat. They don’t know where they are, and they don’t know why they’re there. They only know that the shadow man has taken them, and he won’t let them go.

Desperate to escape, the three of them must find a way out of their living hell, even if it means uncovering a very dark truth.

Because the shadow man isn’t a nightmare. He’s all too real.

And he’s watching.

Helen Fields is back with a heart-pounding new book, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Stuart MacBride.

I love all our different views and opinions

I started listening to this before I went to sleep. No spoiler but it was scary when a woman is being watched! I’m never scared of the dark but I nearly looked around my room!

Again no spoilers but when there is some howling early on it was so odd and I thought I wouldn’t be able to continue if the whole book is like this. I forgot to set it to stop playing so woke to a more entertaining part so restarted and am glad I did.

I wish it wasn’t a standalone.

I dislike short stories, they’re simply not for me. But what I dislike more is not knowing how long a book is, how much longer I have to enjoy it. Not knowing when an interview or in this case short story will begin. FYI it’s 15 mins long and you will enjoy it, I’m sure.

I found the narration excellent!

Not DCI Callanach, but worth a listen

This is a scary and engaging story and worth a listen.
I read previous reviews, particularly regarding Cathleen McCarron’s narration and I understand how it may have put people off. I don’t think it’s her handling of the American accent, I think maybe she’s not a particularly likeable woman, a bit cocksure and ‘know-it-all’, but if you can get past her it’s certainly worth a listen, not quite up to the standard of the Callanach series, but a fairly good listen and of course, the sections narrated by Robin Laing are superb.

EXCELLENT ....A MUST BUY

Please don't be put off with the negative comments about Cathleen McCarron's performance...it is as good as ever and brought the character to life!!
Another great storyline perfectly performed by both Cathleen and Robin...fingers crossed this is book 1 in a new series 🤗

Brilliant

I read the reviews before I listened as I didn’t want to waste my credit and my credit absolutely wasn’t wasted. There is nothing wrong with the female narrators American accent, the female narrator is fantastic as is Robin Laing who is always brilliant! Fantastic story, I was hooked from beginning to end! Highly recommend this audiobook and the perfect series.

Not as good as the DI Luc Callanach series

If you enjoyed Di Luc Callanach series, as I did, you will probably be looking forward to reading this book - I just thought it was a bit ridiculous - not menacing, not dark, not frightening, not in the same league - listened to the end but it was quite frankly laughable by that stage - relief when it ended - if there is a follow up I wont be buying it. Huge disappointment

Loved this book as a stand-alone my only issue is

I have listened to the Perfect Series and absolutely loved it and had high hopes for this stand alone book following this and was pleased to her some of the characters from the perfect series also were written in to this as well, I was however disappointed Robin Laing did not continue to do Overbeck in this story and felt this changed my vision in my head of overbeck in this story. Overall I would recommend this book!

Another fabulous offering from Helen Fields

Brilliant story, brilliant narration. Intelligent ,engaging writing. New characters - will we see them again?. I hope so but not before Mrs Fields has a couple more Callanach books under her belt. I’m missing him.
