Summary

The Seven Sisters is a sweeping epic tale of love and loss by the international number-one best-selling author Lucinda Riley.

Maia D’Aplièse and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home - a fabulous secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva - having been told that their beloved adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has died.

Each of them is handed a tantalising clue to their true heritage - a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil....

Eighty years earlier, in the Belle Époque of Rio, 1927, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into aristocracy. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. In the heady, vibrant streets of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.

The Seven Sisters is the first book in the spellbinding Seven Sisters series.

Good Company

I really enjoyed the book and it has been great company in the car and on walks. I especially liked the performance and in particular the creepy voice given to Gustavo who make my skin crawl !

An easy, interesting listen

Beautifully narrated, this is an easy listen of 2 fascinating lives. However, it's a little difficult to really get into when the characters are sooooo 'ideal'. Everyone is beautiful, everyone is wealthy... but still a good story!

Turgid and interminable

I cannot believe I got as far with this as I did before giving up nearly half way through. I thought it would make a change as something light and escapist but it was really tedious. The narrator iis irritating and loses the sense of some sentences and mispronounces some words.

Overall a good read

Although i enjoyed this first book of the Seven Sisters it left me with several questions. I don't want to give away the story but I was left not knowing why her adoptive father had actually adopted them.
I suppose to know that I would have to read the other books.
Who was the seventh?
Who was her biological father?
One negative part was the long drawn out story the letters told. I am afraid I had to skip some of it as I wanted to get back to Mia's story.
I will purchase the second book to see if my questions are answered but I hope it gets to the point a bit quicker.
Generally the narration was good but not too keen on the old ladies and old men as they sounded the same.
Tentatively I would recommend this book but only start it if you are committed to read all 7.

Not my normal genre of choice but captivating!

I'm normally a high fantasy/urban fantasy/fantasy of any type/LitRPG/Sci-Fi/Crime type of girl, but this was absolutely stunning! so beautifully written and amazingly performed. It was truly capitivating, and made me go through an array of emotions. What a rich story and world, can't wait to listen to the rest!

Engaging

The beginning was slow, but certainly will buy the next in the series. As it it progressed into a an enjoyable story. Sadly my pet hate of all modern authors, not knowing sinks are not in bathrooms and toilets, but basins reared its head, luckily only once.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I

I loved the book but did not like the narration. Character voices and accents not up to standard.

Enjoyable Start of Serirs

I did enjoy listening to this audiobook. I liked the voice of the narrator and the story was interesting. I liked how I always wanted too know what would happen next.

However there is one part in the book which is SO utterly unrealistic considering what characters had been through that it sort of ruined the books credibility for me. SPOILER AHEAD!

SPOILER

The scene in modern times where characters first have sex without any protection is just ludicrous. Why on earth would two people with knowledge or that backstory not at least inquire a put protection. The scene is frame in such a way that it's clear no condom or other method of protection was used. Why couldn't he at least ask her if she's on contraceptive or something like that. It totally ruined the book for me. In this day and age authors should be aware of their responsibility for portraying sexual intercourse realistically.
