Summary

Dangerously addictive, The Secrets of Us is a pulse-pounding exploration of a disturbed psyche and the bond between two sisters desperate to escape a troubled past.

Foster sisters Krystal and Nichole have always been there for each other, so when Nichole is committed to a psychiatric hospital after trying to kill her husband, Krystal drops everything to defend her.

Scarred by a hard upbringing, Nichole and Krystal managed to construct comfortable lives for themselves. Krystal became a respected lawyer, and Nichole was happily married to an architect - until Nichole starts raving that her husband isn’t her husband, believing that he’s an imposter.

Driven by fierce loyalty, Krystal starts asking questions, but she’s not sure she can bear the answers. Her investigation leads to the sisters’ dark shared past...to a horrible tragedy and a well-guarded lie that cemented their sisterly bond.

But that lie can’t kill the truth - the battered, gasping, clawing truth that’s coming for them both. Now Krystal and Nichole must both fight for the lives they’ve built before they’re consumed by the one they left behind.

Trauma, loss, love and desire.

Krystal and Nicole are foster sisters who have a bond that can’t be broken. They live for their early years with the horrible combination of Veronica and her mother. They live on separate sides of the house.

When Nicole is committed to a psychiatric hospital for trying to kill her husband Aiden, Krystal who is now a lawyer needs to get to the bottom of what is going on.

The story alternates from the present to the past and extremely well as the story begins to get put together one piece at a time.

There is a great storyline to follow of trauma, loss, love and desire. Well worth picking up. Would recommend.

Can't stand this narrator doing a man's voice.

Why does the publisher or whomever chooses narrator cut costs by having a female do a male voice? Ruins a good story. The difference between being willing to use a credit or not. Thank goodness this one was a sale one.

Rollercoaster Ride

A definite page turner! Gripped me from start to the very last minute! Definite twists and turns leaving my mind darting and pondering which twists and turns the story would take! Another great read from Lucinda Berry!!!

Good story but

That ending sucked!!!!! The story line was amazing- but the ending left the story open. Now the readers have to imagine what happened to the main characters. Ugh

Narrator

Loved the storyline but the narrator for Krystal was monotone. Nichole was better until she narrated the first detective in the story. It was cringe worthy. I just had to get through that part. Would recommend it.

Another winner from Lucinda Berry

4.5 STARS

Neglect and abuse forges a bond between foster sisters Krystal and Nichole before tragedy binds them together forever. Now attorney Krystal receives word that Nichole is in a psych hospital after trying kill her husband and burn down their house. To get to the bottom of what really happened, Krystal must face the past she’s been running from for twenty years.

THE SECRET BETWEEN US is nonstop psychological drama and thrills, something I’ve come to expect from all Lucinda Berry’s books. As a former psychologist, she’s a writer I can count on for accurate portrayals of the human psyche.

I was never certain about the reliability of the narration of Krystal in the present and Nichole in the past, less so when Nichole shares her history of hearing voices. A writer like Berry understands that psychosis and auditory hallucinations are figments of the sufferer’s brain rather that actual external voices, and the voice Nichole heard made perfect sense.

I also never knew what to make of Aidan. Too good to be true? A sociopath? Something in between?

The reason I rated down to 4 rather than up to 5 was that THE SECRET OF US could have used a wrap up chapter to tie loose ends together. I still had unanswered questions central to the story.

I will read anything Lucinda Berry writer and if you like psychological thrillers, you should too.
