Summary

Negotiate successfully!

Are you aware that almost everything is negotiable?

Negotiation is a skill that can bring you vast success in all aspects of your life. When you're a skilled negotiator, you can get the best possible price on everything you purchase or sell, and you can deal with salespeople or clients.

We're all negotiating all the time in all kinds of everyday situations: parents negotiating with their children; employees negotiating with each other, with subordinates, with bosses; customers negotiating with salespeople or service providers. And with The Secrets of Power Negotiating, you'll always have the upper hand in every negotiating situation in which you find yourself.

For example, the program gives you specific ways to:

  • Get the best possible price when you buy or sell a house, a car, a business, real estate, or any negotiable item.
  • Get a raise or promotion.
  • Keep employees happy without giving in to unreasonable demands.
  • Get a new and better deal with your landlord or mortgage loan officer.
  • Stop being stonewalled by store clerks, petty bureaucrats, service and repair people, and others.
  • Get more cooperation from your corporate peers and subordinates.
  • Get bigger loans and better terms from your banker.
  • Uncover valuable "hidden information."
  • Be more confident in virtually any interpersonal situation.
  • Plus many other situations you run into in your daily life.

Great listen

This book Brings unique insights into negotiation that I have not encountered in other books.
The format can be improved - it's a series of cassettes amalgamated into 1 book, so repot ice at times and doesn't flow

I sincerely reccomend this!!

I have tested some of the strategies here in asking for a compensation increase at my job. Usually I ask for this once a year and I get up to 10%. While listening to this, I asked for a raise after 6 months only and got 40% !!! This is amazing! I am really confident that this book will continue to change my life and I will definitely listen to it again and take notes. Thank you, Roger Dawson!

Old but Gold!

Lots of useful ideas, tactics and strategies here, narrated with charm bordering on the cheesy!
Yes, some parts are dated ("He was the kinda guy that had a lot of gadgets - answer phones, pagers and such...") but again, this comes across as quaint as the principles still apply.

Great content in the wrong order

The chapters at the beginning don't follow each other. Actually, what should be the first chapter is the last one. That aside, really good content and I would recommend it.

Some gems

Glad I read it.
Perhaps showing its age a little in places, though the core content still strong.

Waste of time and money - not unabridged.

Would you try another book written by Roger Dawson or narrated by Roger Dawson?

This book is merely cobbled together from sections of some online course or cassettes by Roger Dawson. It has no coherence, missing great chunks, and lurching from topic to topic. As a narrator, Roger Dawson has an American twang on top of his British accent, which is wincingly unpleasant to listen to. All the vocabulary and examples are American. I absolutely would not, by any stretch of the imagination, consider another Roger Dawson book - but since this isn't really a book at all, just a collection of random recordings, I'm not sure "another" is the right word here.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was mercifully short.

Any additional comments?

Seriously, save your money. And if the book is offered to you for free, save your time.

Great performance -- Chapters in wrong order

What did you like about this audiobook?

The audio is from the cassette era, but the lessons are current as ever.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

There is so much to learn about negotiation and communication. The 4 types of personalities in a negotiation made so much sense:
1. Extrovert
2. Amiable
3. Pragmatist
4. Analytical

Do you have any additional comments?

Chapter order -- please fix this audible, all mixed up (a 1st for audible). Hard to follow when the chapters are all over the place.

Content good but....

Content was reasonable although out of date. Format and progression was terrible with lots of sections seeming to be duplicated
