Summary

When Tessa arrives at the little house by the lake with her two children, it is an escape. The rental house may be a bit small – but it’s theirs for the summer. A place to hide…

However, their isolation is disrupted by the family from the big house next door. Three children and their glamorous mother Rebecca – who seems determined to invite Tessa into their lives.

Rebecca, however, is harboring a dark secret. And when it becomes too much for her to bear, Tessa seems to be the only person she can turn to.

But as powerful bonds form between the two families, choices will be made that can never be undone. And as the summer comes to an end, nothing can keep everyone safe. And one family will pay the ultimate price…

A gripping, powerful emotional page turner with a heartbreaking twist, for fans of Jodi Picoult, Emily Bleeker and Diane Chamberlain.

Disappointing

The story was line was headed in a good direction, but when the Zoe and Catherine went to the hospital it felt like the situation was rushed and unrealistic. It was not the outcome I expected, which is good in a way, but the way it got there and the final resolution was not realistic at all. Very sad ending! Also on chapter 35 when Rebecca asks Tessa how Catherine was doing while in the hospital, we learn about her lungs condition, which was precipitated by the author being that Tessa had not actually learned about that. (This was a mistake on the book)

Such droning on of whiny drama.

If you want to hear two women complaining for hours on end this would be the book for you. It was awful.

Awful. Boring. Made pandemic isolating so much worse!

I don’t normally do reviews & never negatively, but this was long and never attempts to be anything more than mundane rambling followed by a needless tragedy I suppose to have something to say. It’s just plain awful. Waste of money. So very sorry I purchased it.

couldn't put it down.

the narrator was phenomenal. It wasn't a voice that you got tired of listening to. The emotion included was spot-on.

Not worth your time!

This book was not great. The plot took way to long to unfold and was then somewhat predictable. The ending had a twist and was somewhat interesting, hence the 2 stars.

Powerful

When I first started this book I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy it or where the story was going. As I got to know the characters I realized that this was very deeply emotional. It touches on some great topics that women face in a very graceful and unapologetic way. The ending had me in tears. Really great read.

Unbelievably depressing

I can’t believe I stuck with this to the end. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any sadder, it did.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

Best Book I've listened to in a long time. It shares a little bit of what's in all of us.

Hits close to home

With the mixed reviews I read I felt the need to review this book. As a mother of daughters and a cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin, I could relate and really enjoyed the book!! 5⭐️
