About this listen

Four missing girls, their disappearances spanning a decade. Suspected runaways, no one is looking for them anymore—until a new detective arrives.

DS Tracy McGregor, a disgraced police officer from Glasgow, demoted after the way she handled her last case, has recently relocated to Inverness. In charge of cold cases, she discovers a link between these missing girls, which if she is correct suggests Inverness may have a serial killer in their midst.

Meanwhile, Katie O‘Connor, a nurse from London, has moved to Inverness to start a new life. Unbeknownst to her, someone is watching her.

When Katie goes missing under similar circumstances, it becomes a race against time to find her—will DS McGregor reach her before it’s too late?

A very impressive debut novel. The plot is well thought out and moves at just the right pace to keep you hooked without dragging. Tracey, the police officer, and Katie are both very likeable, believable characters, and I found myself quickly invested in their stories. The mystery itself is gripping, full of tension, and had me wanting to listen to just one more chapter.
Simon Aitchison’s narration is excellent—clear, engaging, and really brings the book to life.
Overall, a real page turner [or in this case, page listener!]. I’ll definitely be looking out for the next in the series.
Thanks to the narrator for the copy and I leave this honest review voluntarily.

An entertaining, well written first novel by this author. An excellent premise,, Great characters, the dogged investigator and the latest victim. Told from both angles it keeps you involved throughout. One interesting thing is there is practically no dialogue in the book which is a little unusual but an interesting style of writing. Narration is excellent. i received a complimentary copy of the audio and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Demoted DS McGregor has her first case on a solo investigation of a cold case disappearance which turns in to 4 cases of disappearance. Many twists and turns to an intriguing plot which leads to a satisfying conclusion. My one minor gripe is the author's obsession with interior decoration (particularly the colour grey), and ladies' costumes. One chapter was almost all irrelevant description of decor and costumes. Good twist in the tale though! Very good narration as well. Recommended.
