Summary
Have you ever wondered why ice floats and water is such a freaky liquid? Or why chilis and mustard are both hot but in different ways? Or why microwaves don't cook from the inside out?
In this fascinating scientific tour of household objects, The One Show presenter and all-round science bloke Marty Jopson has the answer to all of these and many more baffling questions about the chemistry and physics of the everyday stuff we use every day.

Dear Marty,
Any additional comments?
Thank you for a very engaging book, I loved it, please make another. But next time, perhaps ease up on the over-emphatic enunciation and the slightly naff humour at the end of each chapter.

Disappointed!
I was expecting to have my mind regularly blown, and to acquire a plethora of amazing new facts to impress friends and family with. Instead, I got a mixture of things I already knew, along with a lot of stuff I didn't know, but wasn't particularly interested in anyway.

Thought provoking and excellently interesting
What does Marty Jopson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The reader has a knack to breaking down complex topics to an understandable and enjoyable level. He uses his own anecdotes and explains his thoughts on the subjects at hand from his previous perspective prior to his scientific understanding.
Any additional comments?
Having studied in chemistry and biochemistry, more of the challenging concepts in the book were more readily understandable to me. Though not a book written exclusively for the academic or graduate level reader, some of the finer points MAY be lost on a reader coming with no baseline scientific knowlede / way of thinking

Some interesting info
I listened to some interesting information on why things work like they do, however some parts didn't have a scientifically backed explanation or outcome so I'm not sure why they were added.
It's an okay listen for a car journey but I did zone out at certain parts that weren't particularly interesting. I would be unlikely to purchase another book of this kind, but I did retain some interesting facts hence the rating.

Interesting reference book but no chapter headings !
Very interesting- full of everyday science- but Audible fails to list chapter headings so the information is not available by subject !

Inspirational, enlightening and engaging!
I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. I was hanging off every word Marty said and was so intrigued by all the fascinating scientific facts and theories! It is written so well and performed with such animation that it really brings the science to life and is far beyond boring! I would recommend this audiobook to anyone and everyone!!!
