About this listen

We are a diminishing group of men and women whose amazing experience actually resembles the incredible experience described in the original “Big Book.” To show other alcoholics, through the heavy use of sarcasm, precisely how far away from that message we have strayed is the main purpose of this book. For them, we hope these chapters will effectively point out the absolute ridiculousness of much of what is commonly spoken, taught, and accepted in the world of recovery today, thus inspiring a reevaluation of the actual “Big Book”. What is written here may be found offensive to some. And maybe it should be - because this book contain nothing but a sadly accurate description of exactly what has been constantly reflected back to its author for several decades.

I listened to the book which was very true in parts in my experience and I understand the frustrations but it also came across as slightly condescending and superior. The author intimated that he was part of an exclusive club, a lamented dying breed which is never a unifying message. It is certainly true that there is often confusion about the role of a sponsor and many play God etc, but it would be more in line with the spiritual principles highlighted by the author if he had shared his experience strenght and hope rather than an outpouring about people in the rooms. Step ten does not say - continue to take others personal inventory and when people are wrong, promptly tell them they are. It says we must take our own. it would be nice to hear the authors actual experience, strenght and hope which addresses the heart directly, mindful of traditions 1 and 12 as I feel he writes well and has alot to offer and could encourage others to seek their own conscious contact and to trust themselves more, which would alleviate some of the risks of sponsor dependency and skewed messages.

After a year and a half of struggling I get the message. A revaluation. A triumph. I cannot recommend this book enough. I’m going to listen again now. 🙏🏽 Thank God.

I'm the partner of an addict in recovery, I go to meetings with him many times.., what I have heard in this book it is the absolute spitting image word for word of what I hear my partner and some of the other fellows talk.. thank you for being able to put it all in writing. very enlightening.
Many thanks
