Summary

December, 1939.

Having solved the case of the Suffolk Vampire, Inspector Betty Church and her colleagues at Sackwater Police Station have settled back down to business. There's the elderly Mr Fern, who keeps losing his slippers, Sylvia Satin's 13th birthday party to attend and the scintillating case of the missing bookmark to solve.

Though peace and quiet are all well and good, Betty soon finds herself longing for some cold-blooded murder.

When a bomb is dropped on a residential street, both peace and quiet are broken, and it seems the war has finally reached Sackwater. But Betty cannot stop the Hun, however hard she tries. So when the body of one of the bomb victims is found stretched out like an angel on Sackwater's beach, Betty concentrates on finding the enemy much closer to home....

Perfect, enjoyable, intelligent and funny entertainment.

I am so happy to see the extraordinary Inspector Betty Church back and investigating another bizarre case, largely hindered by her assorted and mainly inept colleagues. If you could possibly write faster Mr Kasasian I would be so grateful. Bring on book 3 and the same narrator please - she is brilliant.

Only one major flaw...

... that it ends and you’re left wanting more of the wonderful Betty Church and all her odd-ball friends .... looking forward to the next book already.

Not what I was expecting

I have to admit I was very puzzled by 'whodunnit' in this one up until the 'reveal', very good writing.

This book didn't grip me quite as much as the first one. I think that was a combination of me being a bit hit and miss with my listening and the book seeming to be a bit disjointed. However once I got into it more I did enjoy it and just to warn you it gets very dark very quickly.

Just one loose end I don't think was tied up, but hopefully that will be sorted out in the next book.

I will say this book has one of the best scenes ever written, all I'll say is it involves nun's. 🤣

Another hit...

As with the first book of this new ‘Betty Church’ series, I thoroughly enjoyed, the often dark, yet somehow always witty and amusingly told stories. The characters continue to grow, as do my grins, and yes out loud laughs! I truly recommend M R C Kasasian as a writer as well as ingenious criminal mind!

Marvellous March Moments!

Having decided to give book two a chance after being disappointed by book one, it was a decision that paid off - still not quite Gower Street but getting there.
Still having trouble believing in some of the characters e.g. Dottie the Twins and others. Allowing for Wartime, and what you could get, was keeping law and order ever this desparate?
However, on to the story.
Murder mysteries with a twist can be run of the mill but the twist in this tale is a spine chiller! This book has more respect for serious police work than the previous book.
The cameo appearance of March Middleton gives an extra, welcome, dimension to the tale. This chilling tale contains plenty of humorous asides to counteract the tension.
A vast improvement on book one and have already ordered book three in the series.
