The storm was supposed to pass.

Instead, it stayed.

What begins as a quiet night along the Ohio River turns into something far more dangerous when relentless rain begins to swallow the valley surrounding Huntington, West Virginia. As floodwaters surge beyond their banks and emergency sirens echo through the hills, three college students find themselves stranded with nowhere left to go. Their only refuge is Camden Park—an aging amusement park standing just high enough above the river to escape the rising current.

But the storm refuses to let go.

The park is dark.

The power begins to fail.

And the water keeps rising.

This audiobook had a really strong sense of atmosphere from the start. I liked how the tension built slowly, making everything feel darker and more uncertain as it went on. The setting made the story feel eerie without trying too hard, and it kept me curious about what would happen next. It was a suspenseful listen that felt perfect for a stormy night.

Pacing is a little uneven here because the beginning takes a while to set up the rainy night. But once the storm actually hits the valley surrounding Huntington, West Virginia, things finally start to pick up. The rising Ohio River creates a genuinely dangerous situation that forces the plot to move much faster. The second half is definitely much better than the first, as the survival elements take over completely. If you can get past the slow setup, the actual flood sequence provides a pretty decent amount of entertainment and tension.

Nature should never be underestimated, no matter how ordinary things seem at the beginning. One moment everything can feel normal, and the next, everything changes in ways we never expected. This story also reinforces how important it is to stay calm during a crisis because panic often makes situations worse, while a clear mind helps us make wiser decisions. I like how it shows that courage isn't about being fearless.., it's about staying composed, adapting, and helping one another even when circumstances feel overwhelming. In the end, preparation, resilience, and working together are often what carry us through life's most difficult storms.
