A Wonderful Treat!
What a happy combination the marvelous writing of Arthur Conan Doyle bringing Holmes and Watson to life and the wonderful performance by Derek Jacobi. This is a match made in heaven. Some of the stories I knew but it was irrelevant as I was so entranced and engaged with Sherlock Holmes' world. I can only recommend this as the most delicious warm listening. I have two of the other Holmes' books read by Derek Jacobi and they equally enjoyable.

A return to form
As with the previous editions, Derek Jacobi once again does an amazing job of bringing Sherlock Holmes to life in this collection of stories, starting after Holmes supposed death at the Reichenbach Falls. Starting with Watsons' shoving discovery that Holmes is alive, the stories move along at an even pace. Well worth the money, and perfect to while away long journeys.

Brilliant
You know Sherlock Holmes. You've seen adaptations on TV, you know his stories. But, listening/reading the books is just wonderful. By reading, you gain a deeper understanding of Holmes, of Watson, of Victorian England and Derek Jacobi is an amazing narrator. He is perfect for the job. So even though you may be familiar with the stories, have a listen and instead of being preoccupied with 'who done it' (cos you probably know already), enjoy the journey and allow Holmes to lead you there in his own unique way.

Holmes is alive!
This is the third volume of Holmes short stories, and in my opinion the weakest overall, although it still has several good stories in it. Forced by popular sentiment and commercial realities to resuscitate Holmes after the unfortunate drowning incident at the Reichenbach Falls, I always have the feeling that Conan Doyle’s heart wasn’t really in it at this stage – some of these are a bit bland in terms of plot. In the later volumes I feel he got back into his stride and came up with more imaginative and dramatic scenarios – some so imaginative, admittedly, that they test credibility to the breaking point, but more exciting on the whole.
That rather negative introduction shouldn’t put new readers off though – even the weaker Holmes stories are always well worth reading, simply for ACD’s easy, flowing writing style which makes anything he writes a pleasure to read. And the relationship between Holmes and his admiring friend Watson is always a joy.
I listened to Derek Jacobi narrating them this time, and he really is the perfect Watson, as well as creating a full range of voices and personalities for all the other many characters who cross the pages.

A series of short mysteries
A compilation of short stories, these were great to listen while working or driving. Keeps you guessing as to who did it, why, or both. Found it mentally challenging to try and figure out the case before it was revealed. While interesting, a few cases were rather tedious and I had to take a break at one point. Overall I liked it, it is interesting to hear the original mysteries of Arthur C. Doyle and where shows like Sherlock, Elementary, and others drew their inspiration. Sometimes quite liberally....
