Perfect for fans of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Riverdale and Stephen King's The Shining

Her best friend disappeared. A stranger came back.

Julie is missing, and the missing don't often return. But Elise knows Julie better than anyone, and she feels in her bones that her best friend is out there.

She's right. Two years to the day that Julie vanished, she reappears with no memory of what happened to her. But she is different. She's emaciated, with sallow skin, chipped teeth and odd appetites. In so many ways, Julie seems to be the friend they all loved and lost. But in others, she seems to be a stranger.

Along with Molly and Mae, their two close friends from college, they decide to reunite at the eccentric, remote Red Honey Inn. But when bad weather traps them inside the hotel, tensions flare. Elise begins to hear scratching within the walls, to see the slither of shadows cast by nothing. And as the weekend unfurls, it becomes impossible to deny that the Julie who vanished two years ago is not the same Julie who came back.

An eerie storm of a debut that fuses thriller and horror into a brilliant depiction of women's friendships - the rivalries, jealousies, anxieties and love. The Return is like nothing else you'll read this year.

I felt like I figured this book out quickly and I was not a fan of the reader. I really enjoyed Cackle, but this one not so much.

It was ok

It was really slow at the beginning and I hated most of the characters. But I persevered and I ended up loving it! I had way more affection for everyone by the end. I loved the gothic horror conventions in this novel too. I can't get what happened at the end out of my mind as I think it can be read in several ways.

Disturbing Feminist Horror!

An honest depiction of the highs and lows of flawed female friendships meets genuinely spooky original horror. I really enjoyed it. The narrator is excellent and does a great job of giving each character an individual voice/accent without making it annoying. Recommend!

I’ve both read and now listened to this book and honestly, having it read to you, especially in bed at night in the dark, it ramps up the eeriness ten fold!
Reading the book was nowhere near as intense.
I would still recommend this book to any thriller/ horror fans but I would definitely recommend the audiobook more!

Something about having this book read to you enhances the creepiness!

I loved this, it started off strong and atmospheric. the middle section was excellent, sometimes authors or stories fall short in the middle section. I really wanted a VA-VROOM for the ending, and some clarification, but I didn't get that, hence 4 stars and not 5. But for me, Rachel Harrison can do no wrong

Fantastic...but
