Summary

An intelligent, intellectually rigorous examination of why the Christian faith still makes sense in an age of scepticism.

As the pastor of an inner-city church in New York City, Timothy Keller has compiled a list of the most frequently voiced doubts sceptics bring to his church as well as the most important reasons for faith.

In The Reason for God, he addresses each doubt and explains each reason. Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and reasoning to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth.

One of my favourite books

I initially read this book soon after becoming a Christian and have just listened to the audio version. It was helpful then and is still one of my favourite books. I recommend to non-christians too as the book is really written for you and answers many of the difficult questions we all have with God and religion.

reason for god

very interesting book on God. author mentions many ideas on God that I never really thought of it that way. I like the fact Bible scriptures were used and I can relate to it in the Bible. I enjoyed listening to the audible and read the book.

A measured and thought provoking exposition

A measured and thought provoking exposition, read by the author. The arguments against the Gospel are presented and answered sensitively and cogently by an experienced pastor.

A weak case for God

As a non-believer, I found this to be a very weak case for believing in Christianity. Keller jumps to some firm conclusions, describing alternatives as being ‘impossible’ based on very little evidence or even a coherent theory. This is probably useful for an existing Christian who has some concerns, but a large and helpful dose of confirmation bias. However, it will not move the needle for a non-Christian.
